BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA - On Saturday, May 17th JP Morgan a second season veteran of the Stock Car Championship Series (SCCS) took the opening race of the 2003 season. Morgan took the green flag from his pole position and after a few loose corners showed the way to the rest of the field to the checker flag.

"The Barber Motorsports Park is a very technical track, I really enjoyed the challenge of this new venue", Morgan explained. "I'm an oval-track driver by all my experience, but I just think that this track is new to everybody I guess that we had everything put together for this race but it might be different for the next race."

The first lap of the race had intense battles through the first five corners resulting in the lots of position changes. The race ran green until a crash by Roger Reuse on lap 23.

Morgan finished 1.361 seconds over second place Chris Mitchum and 2.924 seconds over Marshall McLeod in third.

In the driver interview session second place finisher Chris Mitchum stated, "This was a wonderful weekend the spectators were on their feet as we came around the track proving that they do like stock cars in Alabama. I think that it's great that SCCS was the first professional spectator race at Barber Motorsports Park."
