BUFFOMANTE LEADS COMBINED MUSTANG CHALLENGE PRACTICE TIMES AT VIR

DANVILLE, Virginia, 23 April - Tony Buffomante turned the quickest practice time for round 3 of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge at Virginia International Raceway. Two practice sessions filled the agenda, and Buffomante, driving the No. 34 Capaldi Racing entry, turned his quickest time in the second session after running a different, scrubbed set of BFGoodrich racing tires from the morning session. George Winkler was quickest in the first session and his time of 2:08.933 sec was only just eclipsed by Buffomante's 2:08.248 sec. Third quick on the day was Ben Crosland with a time of 2:09.100 sec.

"In the morning we were suffering from a lack of grip, but we came back and made some changes to the car and now we've got the just the right balance," said Buffomante, of Napierville, Illinois. "I'm happy with the car, so I'm looking forward to qualifying tomorrow morning."

Winkler, of Frederick, Maryland, too was pleased with the performance of No. 12 Winkler Racing Mustang.

"It was a good day. I stayed focussed on what needed to be done, and the my sons (his crew members) did a fantastic job of preparing the car. So, now it's down executing tomorrow morning in qualifying," said Winkler.

Seventeen year old Ben Crosland, of Salt Lake City, Utah, produced the third best time of the day, holding up from the morning session, with his No. 25 BBC Racing, LLC Mustang.

"We've been steadily working on trying to find the right balance. The first session today produced a car I was really comfortable with. I was able to stay fast through the esses and generally get a good exit from the corners, which is key for good lap here," said Crosland.

Rounding out the fast five on the day were Pratt Cole in the No. 88 RP Motorsports Mustang and new series entrant Kyle Gimple driving Icy Racing / 82 Autowerks entry. Joining Gimple in their first foray into Ford Racing Mustang Challenge competition at VIR were Robert Korzen in the No. 11 Elite Classics Racing Mustang and David Rosenblum on the other No 82 Icy Racing / 82 Autowerks Mustang.

Qualifying gets underway Saturday morning at 8:00 AM EDT. Round 3 of 2010 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge at VIR will take the green flag on Sunday at 1:40 PM EDT.
