New drivers join Speedcar Series line-up in Bahrain

Speedcar Series will hold its second round in Bahrain this Friday and Saturday, January 23-24, 2009. There will be 15 drivers on the grid representing 8 teams over the 2 races this weekend.

The Speedcar Series Season opened in Dubai last month. Vitantonio Liuzzi swept the Qualifying session and Race 1. He was joined on the podium by Heinz Harald Frentzen in second place and Gianni Morbidelli in third. Liuzzi's team mate, UAE's Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum finished 5th in the first race bringing the UP Team to the top of the points scale.

Season 1 Champion Briton Johnny Herbert is currently running 4th in the driver championship standings and will want to close ranks in the coming races.

The Bahrain event will have three new drivers joining the fray including 2-time FIA GT Champion Thomas Biagi, ex-F1 driver Giovanni Lavaggi and Enzo Panacci. Stefan Johansson driving for the Palm Beach team will be unable to race in Bahrain due to a minor skiing accident.
