Olympic swimming medalist Dana Torres took the pole position for the Toyota Pro/Celebrity race at the Grand Prix of Long Beach, duplicating her qualifying performance from last year. Her time of 1:48.468 put her just ahead of former pro wrestler Bill Goldberg and TV star Christopher Kennedy Masterson.
This race, always a crowd favorite at Long Beach, pits celebrities from the entertainment and sports worlds against selected professional drivers in identical, nearly stock Toyota Celicas.
Of the professional drivers, young open wheel driver Danica Patrick turned in the fastest time of 1:46.606, just a little faster than CART broadcast analyst Tommy Kendall. Third quickest was IRL driver Sarah Fisher. The pro drivers will have an additional challenge as they will start behind the celebrities, despite recording faster times. The race will be Saturday at Noon, Pacific time, and will be televised later in the month. (April 28th at 2 pm. on ESPN)
