1999 PRO SPEC RACER SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- SCCA Pro Racing has announced a nine-race Pro Spec Racer schedule for 1999, kicking off its sixth season on the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am's Mosport Park weekend, May 21-23. One additional race is also expected to be added to the 1999 Pro Spec Racer schedule. The nine-date slate for the Pro Spec Racer series (formerly the Spec Racer Ford Pro Series) includes six races at permanent road courses, one oval contest, one oval/road course event and one temporary street circuit race. Following the Mosport Park opener in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, the Pro Spec Racer series will be teamed with the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am and the USRRC at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, June 4-6, in Lexington, Ohio. Round Three will be the series' second oval race at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo., as part of the June 25-27 Indy Racing League weekend. Next up is a double-header weekend at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga., July 23-25, a weekend featuring the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am. The BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am-headlined West Michigan Grand Prix in Grand Rapids, Mich., August 27-29, will be the only Pro Spec Racer temporary street circuit race on the 1999 calendar, followed by Round Seven September 24-26, during the USRRC weekend at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex in Homestead, Fla. Oktoberfest at The Glen weekend, featuring the Six Hours of The Glen USRRC season finale at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y., will host the Pro Spec Racer Round Eight, October 1-3, and Round Nine will be October 15-17 at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Fla., another BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am weekend. "The Pro Spec Racer series is poised to become a true stepping-stone series for drivers looking to climb the professional motorsports ladder," said Bob Anderson, Pro Spec Racer Series Manager. "With identical Pro Spec Racer cars and our mix of venues including road courses, an oval, a street circuit and an oval/road course, this series is the perfect showcase for the drivers' talents. The past five years have been a tremendous success for the Pro Spec Racer series, and we're looking forward to a great 1999."
