A new SCCA Live interface, featuring streaming webcams, was announced today for the remaining BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour events in 2014. The video feeds debut this weekend from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (in photo).

In addition to live notes, timing and scoring and audio of the track public address system, SCCA will place four static cameras around the racetrack, providing a live look at the course during the weekend’s races for those not able to attend in person.

“Each BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour event captures the attention of our racers and fans across the country,” SCCA Vice President of Marketing & Communications Eric Prill said. “These are premiere events, and adding a visual component enhances the live experience remotely. This is something that wasn’t really a possibility a couple of years back, but consumer-based live webcast technology and services have come a long way.”

The four GoPro Hero3+ cameras, each mounted to a fixed structure at the track, transmit a separate signal captured through YouTube Live, which is subsequently brought into the SCCA Live web page. An enhanced SCCA Live web page includes the live timing feed, live Twitter notes, live audio, main camera feed and a thumbnail of each of the four available cameras. Through the thumbnails, users can select which camera populates the main video screen.

“While the Runoffs® webcast has manned cameras and a produced feed through Speedcast, this broadcast is a little more grassroots, similar to that of The Tire Rack SCCA National Solo program’s Ustream webcast,” Prill said. “Based on the positive feedback from those events and other races with static webcams, we believe this is a nice addition for the remaining BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour events.”

Standard SCCA Live screens will be available Friday during the events, with the enhanced version running during race days on Saturday and Sunday. Links are available at www.scca.com/sccalive.

The remaining BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour events, part of the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour and SafeRacer SCCA Club Racing program, are May 30-June 1 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and July 4-6 at Watkins Glen International.
