BSI Racing: Wish Comes True, both MX-5's Finish in Top-Ten

After four races in the KONI Challenge season, BSI Racing and Team Garcia earned two top-ten finishes with the Mazda MX-5 race cars at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Saturday, May 19th. Justin Hall and Magnus Karlsson finished 5th in the No. 58 Joe Gibbs/MOMO/ JustRacing.com Mazda. Teammates Todd Buras and Carlos Garcia finished 7th in the No. 58 Joe Gibbs/MOMO MX-5 race car.

The BSI team has been consistently improving with each race finish through out the season but never before have both MX-5 race cars finished in the top-ten together. "This is a dream come true," said team owner Stu Brumer. Brumer and the rest of BSI Racing were counting on the Mazda Raceway to let the team shine on track. At the start of the race Karlsson was running smooth in the No. 58 car then second gear started slipping. Karlsson was able to race through the annoyance and kept a consistent pace. He turned the car over to Hall after a forty minute stint. "It was a great race, very fun," said Karlsson. "It's fun to be at a home track and do so well. I am just stoked. These little cars did great today."

Karlsson was racing on track with Garcia in the No. 56 Mazda. Garcia was having fun passing his competitors, and catching them on the front stretch. After thirty laps, Garcia turned the car over to Buras. Buras joined teammate Justin Hall on the twisty track. After both drivers got comfortable with the pace of the race, they started moving up in position and worked together to help over come competitors. "These cars were capable of running in the lead," said Hall. During the race, Hall was running as high as third place. "When I was up front I was using the cars ahead of me to draft. I was turning some of my fastest lap times when I was right up front. Then an incident occurred with the transmission and I lost my draft and moved back a few positions. That's when having Buras on track really helped," said Hall. Buras and Hall were racing nose to tail and kept the competitors at bay. "I think what also helped with the race result is that BSI is really clicking together. Also Magnus did a good job under the yellow cautions and timed it great for the pit stop and driver change. It has been a great weekend overall," said Hall.

Buras also joined Hall in the race finish. After getting out of the car, Buras was extremely tired but satisfied knowing he had giving it his all. "I had a lot of fun. The cars were great, the crew was great, and the track was all around great. It was tremendous work catching all of the cars on track. But I had a great teammate on track and we were working together getting the faster cars. Now I am totally wiped out," said Buras.

Buras and the rest of BSI Racing will be heading back to the East Coast for the historic Memorial Day weekend race at Lime Rock.
