SCCA PARTICIPANT ACCIDENT INSURANCE DOUBLED TO $1,000,000

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Sports Car Club of America, SCCA Pro Racing and the United States Road Racing Championship have doubled their Participant Accident insurance program coverage to $1,000,000, the highest level currently offered in the motorsports community. The increase is effective February 1, 1999, and covers participant medical expenses which arise from injuries related to incidents that occur during SCCA or SCCA Pro Racing-sanctioned events, including Club Racing, Rally, Solo, Pro Racing and USRRC events (subject to the terms and conditions of the insurance policy). "The SCCA offers all of its participants -- workers, drivers and officials -- the most diverse opportunities in motorsports, including Club Racing at Regional and National levels, Solo and ProSolo competition as well as time-speed-distance RoadRally and off-road ProRally," said Dennis Dean, Vice President, Club Racing and Rally/Solo for the SCCA, Inc. "Our new $1,000,000 coverage will enable us to continue to lead the industry in insurance protection for our 55,000 members." Since 1984, the SCCA has set the standard for participant accident insurance coverage by establishing a limit of $500,000, a cap that had proven sufficient to cover medical expenses incurred by participants. "We're proud that SCCA Pro Racing and the USRRC are continuing to be the leader in medical insurance coverage for our participants," said K.C. Van Niman, President and CEO of SCCA Pro Racing and the USRRC. "With the ever-rising costs of medical treatment we felt that it was now appropriate to increase our insurance coverage to assure that workers, drivers and other participants at SCCA Pro Racing/USRRC events are more adequately protected." The SCCA, SCCA Pro Racing and USRRC Participant Accident insurance program is administered through the SCCA Risk Management office. For information on the participant accident insurance program contact Ron Graybill, Insurance Manager, SCCA Risk Management, (303) 694-7222.
