Nissan Motorsports joins 12 Hours at the Point as Sponsor

January 13, 2004: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America and Nissan Motorsports announced today that Nissan Motorsports would be participating in the 6th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point as a contingency sponsor. The grueling 12-hour race for sports cars and sedans attracts amateur endurance racers from across the U.S. Held each year at the challenging two-mile Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia, the event is the oldest perennial long-distance endurance race sanctioned by the SCCA.

"Nissan Motorsports has watched this race with great interest since its inception. It is clear to us that the 12 Hours at the Point not only attracts some of the best grassroots endurance racers in the U.S, but it is an excellent test of a car's durability and reliability," said Ron Stukenberg, Senior Manager of Nissan Motorsports. Nissan has a long and successful history in SCCA amateur and professional racing that includes the overall victory in the inaugural 12 Hours at the Point. According to Stukenberg, "We view the 12 Hours at the Point as an excellent demonstration of the quality Nissan builds into our cars. It says something when a car we built nearly 30-years ago out races and out lasts cars that were built much more recently."

"We are thrilled to have the support of Nissan Motorsports," said Jeff Janoska of the Region. Janoska added, "Nissan Motorsports has supported the National level of SCCA's club racing program and this support makes it clear that Nissan Motorsports is there for competitors at every level of SCCA's club racing program."

Nissan Motorsports has established contingency prizes for any Nissan finishing in the top three overall positions. The complete details of the program may be found at www.12hoursatthepoint.org. The event, like all SCCA races at Summit Point is open to spectators and will take place rain or shine.
