For 2010 National Championship contender Cooper MacNeil, this year's addition of the June Sprints at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin's Road America didn't quite go as successfully as the rest of his season has indicated. The 17 year-old Touring 2 compatriot, finished a very respectable 2nd place in his outing, June 26 at the famed 4.0 mile circuit.
MacNeil paced his E46 BMW M3 in the top-three spots all race weekend. The No. 76 WeatherTech machine supported by Fall-Line Motorsports clocked in second quickest in the rounds of qualifying and MacNeil was optimistic for the half-hour long race.
At the drop of the green, MacNeil slotted in behind Andy Woverton and his Pontiac Solstice. Just as MacNeil started to make inroads on Woverton, the race was halted by full-course caution, a theme that would play havoc to MacNeil's race strategy. When back to green, an adjustment to MacNeil's BMW made it almost impossible to drive with oversteer. MacNeil had a big off in the kink that set a gap between his machine and Woverton. When back on course, another full-course caution halted MacNeil's progression. The race would finish under yellow condition which made passing a non-issue. MacNeil was still satisfied with his first June Sprints podium during the weekend sponsored by his Father David's company WeatherTech.com.
"You can't win every race, that's unrealistic," commented a level-headed MacNeil after the festivities. "We tried our hardest to win this one, however in motor-sports the cards don't always come your way and you have to take what you can get. I still feel very confident in my abilities and in my crew Fall-Line Motorsports in preparing a car for victory. I have to thank WeatherTech, Fall-Line Motorsports and ProMotion Driver Development."
Cooper MacNeil is a second generation racer set to make a name for himself in sports car racing during the 2010 season. With support from MacNeil Automotive Products, WeatherTech and Fall-Line Motorsports expect to see Cooper MacNeil's name in victory lane.
