Second is the Word for Mishael Abbott at Road Atlanta
Braselton, GA (March 23, 2008) -- In only her second Formula Atlantic race, Mishael Abbott finished second after starting second at Road Atlanta in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) National Competition.
Each time on the track Mishael consistently took seconds off her lap times in her K-Hill Motorsports prepared Ralt RT-41. In the Saturday afternoon qualifying session she chiseled over one second off her first qualifying time to secure second on the grid among Formula Atlantic cars. In the race she again topped her previous best lap time by over a second and finished right on the heels of the race winner to finish on the podium in second place.
"It was a terrific weekend for us," Mishael said. "I really love driving the Ralt (Formula Atlantic). It is so much fun to drive. Just look at my lap times and you can tell how much I was enjoying it out there."
Mishael showed her driving prowess on the 12-turn road course in what was only her second race in a Formula Atlantic. Her best race lap time of 1:21.865 (111.696 mph) was just 0.011 seconds off the leader's best time.
Lapped traffic played a role in the closing laps as Mishael tried to make a bid for the lead. She didn't quite catch the breaks that the leader benefited from but finished strong taking the second place trophy.
"I am so excited for the rest of the SCCA season in the Formula Atlantic with K-Hill Motorsports," said Mishael. "I am confident that we'll do well at VIR (Virginia International Raceway) in a couple weeks. Our immediate goal is get enough points in the Southeast Division to qualify for the SCCA Runoffs in Topeka."
Mishael Abbott's next race weekend is a double header at Virginia International Raceway, April 10-13, for the Oak Tree Nationals. The first race is Saturday afternoon, April 12, and the second race is Sunday afternoon, April 13.
