Over 200 Drivers will Battle for Points to Qualify for Sports Car Club of America National Championship Runoffs SCCA

Millville, NJ (June 2, 2010) New Jersey Motorsports Park will host the SCCA Jersey Devil National and Pro IT series races this weekend, June 4 to 6 on the challenging 2.25 mile Thunderbolt Raceway presented by the South Jersey Region of the Sports Car Club of America. Twenty-two diverse classes of race cars will compete in 6 race groups in an attempt to qualify for the SCCA National Runoffs in late September at the famous 4.05 mile Road America circuit in Elkhart, Wisconsin. Racers compete around the country at national events throughout the year to earn points to participate in the intensely competitive Runoffs where SCCA royalty will crown a National Champion for each class.

Upwards of 200 cars will devote Friday and Saturday to testing and practicing as they refine their setups for qualifying for starting positions in Sunday's championship races. Sunday's racing starts at 10:00 a.m. with the big-bore GT-1 Trans Am type racers battling in their Corvettes, Porsches, Jaguars and Mustangs. Over 30 cars are expected to compete in this race, along with the legendary racer John Heinricy , multi-time national champion and former General Motors director of performance fielding his ultra fast T-1 Corvette. The lightning quick open cockpit Formula Atlantic, Formula Continental, Formula Mazda super swift sports racers will take to the track at 11: 30 am to register their intentions towards national points.

Five additional national points races will take place in the afternoon following a 45 minute super fast special ProSeries race starting at 1:00 PM for the highly competitive TeamDI Pro IT Series, including Porsches, Mazdas, BMW's, Acuras, and Volkswagons.

As full fledged NJMP Drivers Club Members, the racing Aquilante Family returns once again to NJMP in full force with big and small bore race cars prepared at their Phoenix Performance race shop in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. Joe Aquilante, his son Andrew, brother Tom, and Tom's Daughters Amy and Elizabeth, will all be racing in their respective divisions with high hopes of the whole gang heading for Elkhart Lake in September. In addition to their family of racers, Phoenix Performance will be fielding an STO class racer for Multi-National Championship winner John Yarosz.

According to NJMP Director of Motorsports Activities, Joe Volpe, "The commitment to preparedness for these SCCA national championship qualifying races is tremendous and the level of on track competition is very intense. Ultimately, the opportunity to compete for the national championship is at stake."

Gates open each day at 7 AM with a 3-day full weekend ticket at $31, a 2-day Saturday-Sunday ticket at $21, or a daily ticket at $15. As always, children under 12 are admitted free of charge and all spectators, including children have full access to the garages, paddock and cold pits, enabling the entire family to visit up close and personal with drivers and team members as they prepare their race cars to do battle on Thunderbolt Raceway.

In addition to the races, families can enjoy the kids fun zone, great outdoor food concessions, an incredible opportunity to climb into an NJMP F1 karting experience at the Lightning race paddock, and top it all off with a casual meal at the Finish Line Pub at the NJMP clubhouse which is always open to the public.

To purchase tickets, please visit www.njmp.com or call 856-327-7217. Children 12 and under are admitted free to every spectator event at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
