Report #1

I will be providing periodic reports from the 1997 Valvoline Runoffs, including the distribution of results and press releases when available. These postings will appear on the Wheel To Wheel newsgroup and perhaps on a CompuServe forum, as well as other places Richard Welty may delegate. I will have a few others on this list as well. If you're receiving these from me (rather than W2W) and don't want it, let me know and I'll remove you from my list.

Sending you the results are a question mark at this stage; while Andy Banta has blessed my postings on W2W, I will try to keep the quantity down to appease the few who don't want to receive these messages from W2W. I will also attempt to label every posting in the subject line with "VR-JPMD #xx: " so you can write a filter to automatically delete these messages from your mailbox.

I receive W2W in digest mode, meaning once a day only. I will try to respond to everyone's questions if I can, but I'm several days behind on reading W2W (they tend to come in as files, and I'm swamped with work and mail and don't always get to catch up). If a more immediate response is desired, be sure to cc: me in any W2W posting.

Because of a recent change to CompuServe's WinCIM package, I'll be attaching a file called "Spacer.Txt" to each message. These few bytes keep the body of the message as a message instead of as an attachment. The attachment is basically empty and can be ignored.

Lastly, before the report begins, I wish to thank Mr. Amado for the really cool W2W T-shirt and patches. I shall wear the T-shirt at the Runoffs with pride and encourage everyone to go out and buy some.

----------------------------------------

The journey has begun. I've left my house for the next week and a half to the care and custody of my roommate. My first stop was a visit to a Toastmasters meeting in Agoura. (Did you know that Toastmasters in Indy use flags instead of lights to help people with the timing of their speeches?) I'm spending the night in Loma Linda at Don's house; in the wee hours we roll out, our next stop Prescott, Arizona, a most beautiful place. I'll be navigating for Fred Ronn in the PRO Rally there over the weekend; Don will be crewing for us. From Prescott I drive alone to Phoenix, where I then fly to Ohio. I arrive there Monday evening.
