Menomonee Falls, Wis. 1/3/06 -- UEMSI Motorwerks announced today that Steve Welk, former SCCA Pro Racing/WKA Constructor's Series ICA Champion, will drive for the second year team during their 2006 SCCA Spec Miata national and regional campaign.

Welk, the 7th ranked driver from the 2005 Stars of Karting ICA class, will pilot the #57 UEMSI Motorwerks McLaren-orange Mazda Miata, teaming up with fellow emcee and former college roommate Jacques Dresang in the two car team.

"I am really excited for the opportunity that UEMSI Motorwerks has given to me. This will be a whole new challenge for me to run a full season of tin tops but I know that I have an enthusiastic group behind me. I just really want to thank Rick and Jacques for the vote of confidence they have given me to help develop their team. I really look forward to getting UEMSI to the Runoffs in Topeka."

This will be Welk's first full time season in saloon cars, after 5 years of open wheel car competition and over 15 years of karting experience.

"Steve is a superb addition to our team," said UEMSI Motorwerks director Rick Dresang. "He has the sort of experience and intensity that we needed in a driver to take us to the SCCA Runoffs in Topeka, Kansas."

Teammate Jacques Dresang was even more enthusiastic about the 23-year-old Welk joining the team. "Steve is a hard charger, anyone who has watched him in karting or in the formula car ranks knows that he's going to give 110% at all times. When the opening came up for our other car, Steve was the only one on my short list as a teammate."

The UEMSI Motorwerks squad will debut with Welk at the April 22 Chicago Region Quad Regional at Blackhawk Farms in Rockton, IL. UEMSI is a worldwide leading manufacturer of pipeline cleaning and televising equipment, as well as a distributor of sewer cleaning hose and Yamaha® generators.
