Toyo Tires M3 Scores Pole and Podium At Lime Rock

LIME ROCK PARK, Lakeville, CT - 06/15/2006 - Will Turner missed the perfect weekend by about a car length when he finished second in Saturday's SCCA National T2 race at Lime Rock Park. Turner earned the pole the day before in his Toyo Tire/Turner Motorsport BMW M3.

Will Turner is a Connecticut native with years of seat time in BMWs at Lime Rock Park. Racing here just two weeks ago, Turner finished in second place in the Grand Am Cup series. His experience was a major factor when Turner earned the pole position in Friday's qualifying.

For the race, Turner led after the green flag but was passed on the front straight by Kristian Skavnes in a Subaru STi. Skavnes built up a healthy lead on Turner that lasted until there as about 10 laps left in the race. At that point Turner caught the Subaru and the two raced nose to tail for the remaining laps. At the checkered flag Turner was close but Skavnes won by a nose.

Will Turner, driver, Toyo Tires/Turner Motorsport BMW M3:

"We had a very good weekend here, as we usually do, and we almost had a win. I think the power-to-weight of the STi gives it an edge over the M3 and that's why Kristian was able to get by me. But I fought back at the end of the race with a lot of help from my Toyo Tires - I caught the Subaru mainly because his tires went "off" and mine didn't. The Toyo's were simply amazing right at the end and we had door-to-door battles for the last five laps. I wouldn't have been able to make that kind of challenge without the consistency of the Toyo RA-1 Tires."

Will Turner remains in second place in the overall New England Region T2 standings with plenty of races left to go before the SCCA Runoffs on October 14.

With Toyo Tires as the primary sponsor, the M3 is equipped with Proxes RA-1 DOT-approved competition tires. Through the extensive testing process last season, Turner Motorsport compared the Toyo RA-1 to other major race tires and found them to be the most consistent tire over a larger number of laps. The RA-1 proved to have as much grip at the end of the 30 minute races as at the beginning. Turner's success in 2006 with the RA-1 tires includes three second-place finishes and one win.

Under the rules, Turner Motorsport has developed a range of parts for T2 racecars around the country: T2 race springs, Turner Motorsport sway bars, special race exhaust, Turner Motorsport oil cooler kit, Shark Injector software, race-spec brake cooling, and racing brake pads. The entire range of T2 parts can be found on the TMS website, www.turnermotorsport.com. In addition, the car is equipped with a full complement of safety features: roll cage, fire suppression system, racing harnesses, and a racing seat.
