SCCA ClubRally National Championships up For Grabs in Missouri This Weekend.

TOPEKA, Kan. (Feb. 17, 2004) -- The time is now for Performance Rally competitors to show off in the "Show Me" state as The ClubRally National Championship (CRNC), an invitation only, two-day event, descends on the southern half of Missouri this weekend.

The St. Louis Region-hosted event, comparable to the SCCA Club Racing Valvoline Runoffs® and The Tire Rack® Solo National Championships, is known in rally circles as the "World Series of Performance Rally." The event makes service stops in several towns in the area throughout the weekend, giving many rally enthusiasts a chance to view the dirt and gravel spraying monsters firsthand as they tear through the rural countryside.

"Trespassers Wil" and "100 Acre Wood" (both names coming from A.A. Milne's classic "Winnie the Pooh" story collection) make up the individual Friday and Saturday portions of the weekend, respectively. Individual winners will be honored both days, while an overall winner will be declared by combining the stage times of both rallies at the conclusion of Saturday's run.

"I'm delighted with this year's courses," third-year CRNC Chairman Kim DeMotte said. "They are compact which will give the contestants plenty of competition in a short period of time, yet allow the public to get a feel for the sport at five different spectator venues over the two days.

"These are some of the finest rally-racing roads in the country, and the warm welcome we get every year from the cities we visit and the counties we compete in is the key to a successful event -- both from the competitors' point of view and the public's."

Trespassers Wil is a six-stage, Coefficient 2 SCCA ClubRally (A Coefficient 2 rating means 30 to 65 stage miles). The event begins Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Ellington, Mo. The first car is scheduled to finish in Salem around 7:00 p.m. Spectators will have two viewing areas available to them on Friday.

Saturday's eight-stage, three-spectator point 100 Acre Wood event is a Coefficient 3 (65-100 stage miles) rally. Competitors will start in downtown Salem on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and have service breaks in Steelville and Viburnum before returning to Salem that evening. The first car is expected to arrive back in Salem around 6:30 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge.

John Drislane, of Carmel, N.Y., and co-driver Ronan Burke, of Avon, Conn., took home the Overall CRNC trophy a year ago in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV after combining a solid first day with a win in 100 Acre Wood. Seamus Burke, of Powder Springs, Ga., and his co-driver Charles Bradley, of Kennesaw, Ga., were overall winners of the 2003 Trespassers Wil, driving a Mitsubishi Evo 6.5. However, the pair ran into trouble and weren't able to finish the second day.
