Stuart's Ride
June 23, 2007

Clint Goss's book has two chapters on Great Race style events. In it he says that the navigator must be the observer and help keep the car on course, and that the driver has to assume the navigation duties and keep the car on time.

The navigator needs to keep track of the time that things happen and may want to keep a note pad and make entries with a pencil. Write down the number of each NRI and the time-of-day that each is executed, and write down the time-of-day that you reach each checkpoint.

Because all of the controls (checkpoints) in Stuart's Ride are CLOSED (passage) you will not get a control info slip at any of them. In the 1960's I passed through a passage control perfectly on time, and even waved at the control crew. However, they didn't write my time down and I was scored as having missed the control.

Being a newbie in those days I hadn't recorded the time-of-day that I passed the control, and accordingly had no way to argue that I was there.

So, take notes, execute the NRIs at the proper CZT plus your car number in minutes.

On-line registration is available below, so if you haven't registered do so there, not at MyAutoEvents.

Solo at Pungo

Sunday, July 2, 2007 The fastest person wins as you test your driving skills around the pylons. There are classes for all types of cars from fully prepared Corvettes and Porsches to VW Bugs and Joe's Pontiac. And skill wins every time. If you turn out to be a real "HOT SHOE" there is the SCCA Pro Series and the National Tour Series where the competition is always intense. The Old Dominion Region normally conducts one event per month from April through November and hosts one Divisional Event each year. Other clubs in the area also conduct events and most use SCCA classes. Membership in SCCA is not required, but we do give members preferential treatment at our events. Rule books and membership applications are available at each event. If you want to be involved, but not compete you can meet everyone by working at registration or timing and scoring. You can also become an official Solo Safety Steward by attending an ODR approved school. And of course you are welcome to just watch, but it is lots more fun to get involved so checkout our Solo Championship and Regional Rules pages to get started.
