Nominations Sought for SCCA Solo's Highest Honors

TOPEKA, Kan. (August 3, 2007) -- This year, the presentation of Solo's three highest awards returns to their traditional venue, The Tire Rack® SCCA Solo National Championships. Nominations are currently being accepted for the Solo Cup, Driver of Eminence and The Johnson Spirit of the Sport Awards.

The Solo Cup is for the SCCA member who has made an outstanding contribution to the Solo Events Program and is selected by the Solo Events Board. Past recipients include Kathy Barnes, T.C. Kline and Rocky Entriken.

Each year the Solo Events Board also chooses a Solo Driver of Eminence for the driver who has consistently demonstrated excellence behind the wheel and an exemplary degree of sportsmanship, dedication and unselfishness. Previous winners include the likes of Bob and Patty Tunnell, Tom Bootz, Bill Goodale and John Ames.

The Solo Events Board is taking nominations for both the Solo Cup and Driver of Eminence through August 20. Nominations can be emailed to seb@scca.com or sent to the SCCA National office at P.O. Box 19400, Topeka, KS 66619. Presentation for the two awards will take place at Wednesday's Tire Rack Solo National Championship Awards Banquet.

Celebrating the lighter side of Solo, The Johnson Spirit of the Sport Award is for the Solo community member who brings the spirit of fun and camaraderie to their fellow members. It is named after its inaugural recipient Roger E. Johnson. The winner is selected and presented by the previous three recipients, a.k.a, the Royal Order of Sheep. This year's trio includes Team Underdog, Howard Duncan and Scotty B. White. In keeping with the theme of the award, it is presented during Monday night's Kumho Kapers Kickoff Party.

More information on these awards and a list of previous winners can be found in the Solo Rulebook, which is posted at www.scca.com.

All awards will be ceremoniously re-presented again at the 2008 SCCA National Convention, February 7 -- 9, in San Antonio, Texas.
