SCCA SPEC RACER FORD PRO SERIES SLATED FOR FIVE-RACE 1998 SCHEDULE; ADDITIONAL VENUES POSSIBLE

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (March 6, 1998) -- The SCCA Spec Racer Ford Pro Series is slated for a six-race schedule in 1998, kicking the season off at Heartland Park, Topeka, Kan., and wrapping up the series' fifth season at Pikes Peak International Raceway, in Fountain, Colo.

"The Spec Racer Ford Pro Series is an important element in offering a well-rounded package to our promoters," said K.C. Van Niman, SCCA Pro Racing/USRRC President and CEO. "The Spec Racer series consistently produces an excellent show and the drivers enjoy their close racing. The Spec Racer Ford Pro Series is a true drivers' series, and the fans really appreciate the intense level of competition."

The season opener at Heartland Park, May 15-17, will be in conjunction with the NASCAR Winston West and SCCA World Challenge series, and is followed by a joint NTB Trans-Am Series/USRRC Can-Am and GT Championship weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, June 12-14.

The season's third contest will be on the streets of Grand Rapids, Mich., as part of the NTB Trans-Am Series-headlined inaugural West Michigan Grand Prix, July 24-26. Round Four will be the series first-ever oval race, competing at Pikes Peak International Raceway, in Fountain, Colo., as part of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League weekend, August 22-23.

Watkins Glen International, and the USRRC First Union Six Hours of The Glen weekend, August 22-23, is up next, the series first race at WGI since 1994. The SRFPS season finale will also be the second race of the season at the Pikes Peak International Raceway. The finale will be in conjunction with the NTB Trans-Am Series weekend, September 26-27.

Additional venues may be added to the current SRFPS schedule, and select events may be double-race weekends. Details of any changes will be announced when available.
