Robby Gordon Wins the 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 500

CHARLOTTE, NC (June 6, 2009) -- Robby Gordon and his No. 77 Monster Energy / Toyo Tires team continued their dirt-defying dominance of the 2009 SCORE Desert Series season by winning the coveted Baja 500 title on Saturday. Gordon continues to lead the 2009 points standing and set the pace for the rest of the competitors this season. In the three races ran this season, Gordon holds two victories and a second place finish. Further, Saturday's Baja 500 win marks the renowned off-road racer's fifth class win and fourth overall victory.

Gordon started the 432.51-mile race from the sixth position, but quickly moved his way up through the field and set the race pace for most of the day. He was able to finish the grueling course in eight hours, 35 minutes and 49 seconds, averaging roughly 50 miles per hour in the No. 77 Monster Energy / Toyo Tires trophy truck. Gordon won by over a four minute margin to second place finisher, B.J. Baldwin.

Immediately following his ninth career race win in the SCORE Trophy-Truck division, Gordon, also a NASCAR veteran, headed towards Pocono International Raceway for today's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, where he finished 31st.

"It was a great run for us. It was exciting to have such close racing with B.J. (Baldwin) -- some of the better racing we've ever had," said Gordon. "We didn't have radio communication with our team for the last 250 miles, so it was really hard which makes this win even better. Our team has learned to overcome obstacles and make the most of every situation. We gave up a bunch of time due to the communication problem because we were able to use the true navigation. Still, we just paced it and kept it smooth. I had a couple of strategies in place. But, honestly, I just cruised most of the day. Once I was the first truck on the road, I knew they had to pass me to beat me and that would be hard to do."

"I am proud of everything that our team has been able to accomplish this year. We have had some incredibly flawless runs in this No. 77 Monster Energy / Toyo Tires Chevy, and I would love nothing more than to continue performing this well in the remaining two races this season and ultimately win this year's SCORE Desert Series Championship," said Gordon.
