TOYOTA PRESENTS MILESTONE AWARDS AT SCORE ANNUAL BANQUET; THREE WALK AWAY WITH TOYOTA TRUE GRIT AWARD
TORRANCE, Calif. (Dec.11, 2005) After five races and 1,752.14 miles, 13 SCORE racers in eight different classes were presented with the prestigiousToyota Milestone Award at the 32nd Annual SCORE Awards Night, Saturday, Dec.10 at the Primm Valley Resort in Primm, Nev. Three of the competitors also earned and will split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit Award.
"Toyota is proud to honor the world's best desert racing drivers," said Les Unger, national motorsports manager for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. "For two decades we have had the privilege of presenting the SCORE Toyota True Grit and Milestone Awards to the toughest racers on the planet."
The Toyota Milestone Award is presented to all SCORE off-road competitors in the professional four-wheel classes who complete every required mile in the five-race desert series. The 13 drivers who earned the 2005 Toyota Milestone Award are Bob Shepard and Josh Baldwin (SCORE Trophy-Truck), Mark McMillin (Class 1), Caleb Gaddis and L.J. Kennedy (Class 1-2/1600*), Marcos Nunez (Class 5/1600), Todd Wyllie (Class 8), Eric Fisher (Class 9), Travis Brookshire (Class 10*), Tom Watson, James Golden, Jake Batulis and Mike Belk (SCORE Lite*).
The class points champion(s) in non-factory-backed classes 1/2-1600, 10 and SCORE Lite who finish every required mile in the five-race series will split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit Award prize fund. Caleb Gaddis (Class 1/2-1600), Travis Brookshire, (Class 10) and Tom Watson (SCORE Lite) will each earn $4,000. Although eligible, there were no Class 5 competitors who qualified this year.
This year marks the 20th consecutive year that Toyota has presented the esteemed awards to the off-road racers who finished every mile of every race in the 2005 SCORE Desert Racing Series.
The Tecate SCOTE Baja 1000 will air on OLN Sunday, Dec.17, 10:00 p.m. (EST & PST), 7:00 p.m. (PST) and 1:00 a.m. (EST). The Baja 1000 will re-air on Monday, Dec.19, 6:30 p.m. (EST) (possible shift to 6:00 p.m.).
