TWO DAY SPRINT CAR "1996 OVAL NATIONALS(c)" SET FOR PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY OCT.18-19, 1996

Purse Will Exceed $40,000-10.000 To Win!

Perris, Calif.-The call has rung out across the country to everyone who drives a Sprint Car: "Come on out to brand-new Perris Auto Speedway... bring your choice of Sprint Car, race for two nights (Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19) and we'll see who goes home with the $10,000 first place money on Saturday night." The inaugural Oval Nationals(c) event rules at Perris are "Open", which makes them exceedingly simple: a Sprint Car with a 410-inch V-8 motor running on 100% straight methanol, any size tire that you can get on the machine, no wings, carbon fiber, nor titanium...you'll need a (95 dB limit) sound suppression system (mufflers) and standard safety gear... that's about it. "Open" also means open to as many professional Sprint Car racers as care to make their way out to America's newest 1/2-Mile clay oval. The only other requirement to compete at Perris is a optional one suggested by Competition Director Bubby Jones, he adds: "Just bring your spurs!" These "open" rules will flat guarantee a highly-competitive set of events both days at Perris Auto Speedway. With timed qualifying and qualifier heat races on Friday, and B, C and D mains which will lead up to the main event on Saturday night. "There'll be $40,000-plus in prize money paid out over the 18th and 19th and $10,000 of that will be for winning that big 40-lap main on Saturday night," said Jones. "Every Sprint Car race that we've had at Perris has been fierce...but this one promises to make all of those past races look tame by comparison." The best Open Wheel/Non-Wing Sprint Car drivers from around the country are expected to attend and compete at this inaugural "Oval Nationals(c)". Reserved seat tickets are available for both days through the PAS office ticket line (call: 909-943-4006 M-F, 10 a.m.-4:00 p.m. PDT). There's not a bad seat in the house and every one of them is just as close to the action as safety allows. Each night at the "Nationals" the racing is scheduled to be "in the history books" by 10:30 P.M. when the crossover gates to the infield pits will be opened for fans to join the racers and their crews in the pit area for a post-race autograph and photo session...everyone's invited!
