Steve Kinser Named North American 410 Sprint Car Poll "Driver of The Year" For 2004
KNOXVILLE, IOWA (December 9, 2004) - For the thirteenth time since 1986, Steve Kinser of Bloomington, Indiana, was voted the 2004 "Driver of the Year" by the North American 410 Sprint Car Poll voting panel of media members, promoters, sanctioning officials and manufacturers. The World of Outlaws (WoO) point champion earned twenty-six (26) of the thirty (30) first place ballots cast in the year-end poll. Steve Kinser also received the "Team of the Year" honors for the fifth time since 1998.
Those drivers ranked second through fifth, respectively, are Danny Lasoski of Missouri, Fred Rahmer of Pennsylvania, Donny Schatz of North Dakota, and Craig Dollasnky of Minnesota. Rahmer, who was unranked after 2003 and won four track titles at Susquehanna, Williams Grove, Lincoln and Selinsgrove in '04, also received the remaining four first place votes. Rounding out the 'top ten' for the season are All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) titlist Chad Kemenah, Knoxville Raceway champion Terry McCarl, Greg Hodnett, Jason Meyers and Tim Kaeding, respectively.
Erin Crocker of Massachusetts earned the North American 410 Sprint Car Poll's "Wild Card Award" for her exciting sprint car performances, which included a WoO feature win. Out-going Eldora Speedway owner/promoter Earl Baltes again claimed the "Promoter of the Year" title. Billy Alley of Nebraska received the "Rookie of the Year" award in the 410 division, much like he had done in 2002 in the national 360 class. Brian and Jeannie Butler of ButlerBuilt Seats received the "Builder/Manufacturer of the Year" award, while popular Allan Holland of the www.hoseheads.com web-site earned the "Media Member of the Year" honors. Hank Gentzler of Hank's Performance Products was posthumously honored with the 2004 "Outstanding Contribution to the Sport Award."
