ATTICA, OH - Craig Dollansky captured his second career All Star win Saturday night at Attica Raceway Park in the 40-lap Coors Nationals All Star feature. The win was worth $5,000, and it came for the Minnesota native after losing the lead to Shane Stewart then passing him with only six laps remaining. "Shane surprised me down low," Dollansky related." I was just trying to run my race up high and he showed me I had to run a little harder." After a lap 34 restart, Dollansky rode high around the Oklahoma driver to push his Fisher-Chevrolet powered Polydome Maxim into victory lane aboard Hoosier tires. Californian Jason Meyer started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole, with Stewart alongside. Meyer jumped out to an impressive lead in the high groove, with Stewart second and third starter Dollansky next, ahead of Jeff Shepard. Dollansky got past Stewart for second just before a lap six caution for a Danny Smith spin in turn two. After the green reappeared, Meyer drove high off the backstretch exiting turn two, handing the lead to Dollansky as Meyer recovered in eighth position. Dollansky now lead over Stewart, Dean Jacobs, Shepard and Chad Kemenah. Team-mates Stewart and Jacobs traded the runner-up spot until Shepard moved past them both on lap 10 for second. Dollansky remained on top following a lap 11 caution, and Shepard kept close by running extremely high on the backstretch, just atop the edge of the track. Another caution flew on lap 16 for an Alvin Roepke spin, allowing Shepard to close with Jacobs third, Stewart fourth, Kemenah fifth and 16th starting Kelly Kinser sixth. Kemenah moved into contention and was fourth on lap 18. By lap 21, Shepard still could not challenge the leader as Stewart began running the low groove, and was back up to third. Shepard tried Dollansky low off turn three and four on lap 23, but the move would not stick. By lap 27, Stewart was right on Shepard, and dove under him for second on lap 28, A lap later he took the lead by driving under Dollansky off turn four and it looked like the race was his. But when Brad Furr stopped off turn four on lap 34, the caution waved and Dollansky had another chance. After the green came back out, Dollansky disposed of the lapped machine of Jim Nier and the leaders rode side by side in the turns, with Stewart low and Dollansky high for three laps. Then Dollansky drove around Stewart with a high bonzai move, taking the lead on lap 38 and victory was his. Stewart held on for second over Shepard, who changed his machine around for the feature, but guessed wrong on the set-up and he couldn't run the bottom groove. Kinser was fourth, earning the TW Metals $100 bonus. Jacobs soldiered home fifth with new All Star points leader Rodney Duncan sixth after starting 14th. Byron Reed finished seventh, winning the Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven award, ahead of Keegan, Kasey Kahne and Kemenah. "I didn't need a yellow," was what Stewart stated after the race. "I got scared when those guys began going around me on the high side, but I thought I'd stick with it and the tires would warm up and start taking off again and sure enough they did. But man, I didn't need that last yellow." The heats went to Kelly Kinser, Stewart, Todd Gracey and Greg Wilson. Kemenah was the B Main winner and Phil Gressman captured the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash. Kenny Jacobs was the fast qualifier over the 43 car field, worth $300 from Ramsey Trucking and a new Weld Wheel. He failed to qualify through the B Main, so he started the A Main as a provisional starter. Barry Ruble took a nasty ride over the turn three concrete in time trials, tearing out a portion of the frontstretch catch fence. Ruble was unhurt. The Baumann Automotive Group put up a $1,000 bonus if an Ohio driver could win the A Main and a $5,000 bonus if a driver originally slated to start in rows 11 or 12 could win the main. The bonuses went unclaimed.
