GIBSONTON, FL - When the All Star Circuit of Champions sprint cars invade East Bay Raceway Nov. 1-2-3 for their season ending trio of races, the memory of John Bankston, a driver who was killed at Eldora Speedway this summer, will be honored. The weekend has been dubbed the East Bay Fall Nationals.
John Bankston Celebration Day will be held Friday night Nov. 2. Bankston had competed at East Bay every February with the All Stars in the East Bay Nationals and this day will be a time to remember and honor his spirit. The All Star feature and companion 360 sprint feature will be dedicated to Bankston. Each feature winner will receive a plaque commemorating the win on Bankston's night. Other ways to remember the fallen driver are also being planned.
Saturday's East Bay finale will decide the All Star 2001 points championship and pay the winner $30,000. In addition, the 360 sprint winner will receive $10,000. Also on tap for the weekend is a Teenage National Challenge Race in the 360 class for young up and coming sprint car drivers.
