ALLSTAR: Fremont doubleheader set

FREMONT, OHIO (Aug. 26) - The weekend of Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8 will be huge at Fremont Speedway as the All Star Circuit of Champions sprints pay a visit to "The Track That Action Built" on both dates.

TW Metals will be the title sponsor of the Friday night show, which will pay $5,000 to win. The company, headquartered in Exton, Pa., is a corporate sponsor of the 2001 All Star tour.

TW Metals has many promotions for both fans and competitors alike on Friday. TW affiliate Sarah Fisher, a former All Star driver and current Indy Racing League competitor, will be at Fremont Speedway for an autograph session at 6:30 p.m.

Also, TW Metals will provide numerous door prizes to be given away, including several autographed 1:18 die cast models of Fisher's IRL car as well as signed and framed photographs. The first 300 fans entering the gates will receive an All Star logo sports bottle.

For the sprint drivers, TW Metals will post $1,200 in additional cash contingency awards on Sept. 7, including a special dash for the four heat race winners. Additional promotions are currently in the planning stages for the opening night of the two-night All Star weekend at Fremont.

The popular Fremont Speedway Dirt Trucks will also be on the night's racing card.

Then, on Saturday, Sept. 8, Kear's Speedshop founder, the late Chuck Kear will be honored during the Chuck Kear Memorial paying the All Star feature winner $6,000 ($500 to start!).

In addition, there will be manufactures' give-aways for all the A-Main starters in the All Star feature and the 305 sprint A-Main. Last year's manufactures' give-aways totalled nearly $9,000!

Not only will the fans be treated to great racing the entire weekend, but there will be many fan give-aways throughout both nights, including a free bike each night to some lucky youngster 10-years-old or younger.

The All Stars have invaded Fremont three times in 2001 coming into the Sept. 7-8 weekend. Chad Kemenah, the current All Star point leader, opened Fremont's 50th anniversary season on April 28 by picking up the win. Rodney Duncan scored the win on June 9, and Mark Keegan picked up the victory during the third leg of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek on July 3. Kenny Jacobs has been on a roll lately, scoring a pair of victories in the Thunder Through the Plains All Star tour and an All Star win on Aug. 25. He picked up his first career feature win (after 29 years of trying) at Fremont on May 19. Look for Byron Reed to be in the thick of things as well as the youngster two feature wins in 2001 at Fremont.

On Friday, Sept. 7, the gates open for fans at 5 p.m. with qualifying slated to begin at 7 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m. On Saturday, gates will open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 6:15 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 419-862-2206.
