ALLSTAR: Lernerville results

SARVER, PA -- Ed Lynch Jr. made a thrilling last lap pass of Dale Blaney Friday night at Lernerville Speedway to win the Haulmark All Star sprint car 35 lap Earl and David Bauman Memorial feature. The event paid $6,000 to win, with the additional $1,000 coming from event sponsor Commercial Truck and Trailer. The All Star feature was a makeup from a rained out event in August, 2003 and it was Lynch's seventh career All Star win and his sixth win here this season.

"I've been trying to win this Bauman memorial race a long time. I've been second a lot but I've never one this one before," Lynch stated. "It was slide job after slide job, we used the whole racetrack. Dale was rolling turns one and two a lot better than I was and I was better in three and four." His J&J is sponsored by Indy Recycling, Commercial Truck & Trailer, Kistler Engines, Hoosier Tires, Weld Wheels and Red Devil Brakes.

Rod George and Blaney led the field to the start, followed by Ryan Coniam, Lynch, Jr., Chad Kemenah and Chad Hill. Blaney grabbed the initial lead, holding off George for the first three laps until a Gary Kreiss flip stopped the action. For the restart it was Blaney, George, Lynch, Coniam and Kemenah.

Lynch dove low in turns three and four to lead lap five, and began running away from Blaney. The event went green until lap 18 when Arnie Kent and Dan Shetler went off turn one, bringing out a caution. The running order behind Lynch was now Blaney, George, Kemenah, Jamie Smith and Dean Jacobs. Lynch pushed out to another half straightaway lead until he entered heavy lapped traffic. This allowed Blaney to close and put a slide job on Lynch to lead lap 32. Lynch battled back, going low under Blaney on lap 33. The lead duo were side by side, with Blaney slightly ahead. Lynch tried a slider the next lap, but Blaney held him off. But the final lap was all Lynch as he slid under Blaney to grab the lead going down the backstretch to win by three car lengths. In third was Kemenah, after passing George on lap 23. Jacobs started 12th and moved up to fourth at the end ahead of George and Danny Smith, up from 21st starting spot, earning the Fisher Performance Hard Charger award. Jamie Smith was seventh with Jeremy Campbell eighth, Phil Gressman ninth and Jack Sodeman Jr. tenth.

For leading lap 18, Blaney received a $500 bonus from Jack Lewis, in honor of his late son, former sprint car driver Spanky Lewis. Lewis also paid a $200 bonus to the first non-qualifier from the b Main, Scott Priester.

In preliminaries run on Aug. 29, 2003 the Crown Battery heat fell to Kenny Jacobs, the B&B Products heat went to Eric Smith, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Dean Jacobs and the TP Wings heat fell to Shane Stewart. Jeff Shepard won the B Main and Kemenah was the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier. The last chance race fell to Gary Kreiss.
