HARTFORD, OH - It only took 9 minutes and 15 seconds for Kenny Jacobs to win the non-stop All Star sprint 30-lap feature Saturday night at Sharon Speedway for the opening night of the 18th annual Sharon Nationals. Jacobs led the entire 15 mile distance in the Tim Hughes, Kriner-Chevy powered J&J wrenched by Barry Jackson. The win came over Greg Hodnett, Dean Jacobs and Jeff Shepard.

"Its a good thing we didn't have a caution," Jacobs related as he looked at a hole in his right rear tire spewing out air in victory lane. "We just got lucky, Greg showed me his nose a little bit on the bottom, and I was losing time on the top so I just went to the bottom and the car locked down pretty good. That's where I should have been in the first place."

"I kind of messed up there," Hodnett admitted. "I showed him my nose entering turn one, and that's all it took. He's a smart racer, from then on he was on the bottom." Hodnett drove Bob Stewart's Apple Chevrolet machine.

Butch Schroeder started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole position with K. Jacobs alongside. Jacobs rode the high groove into the lead, with Schroeder ducking it second and fourth starter Jim Nier, in his first Sharon start, third. Hodnett started fifth and took third on lap five, while D. Jacobs, who started 11th, got past Shepard's Maxim for fifth.

By the time he entered lapped traffic on lap seven, Kenny had a quarter lap lead. At this point, Dean got around Nier for fourth, and began pressuring Schroeder. As Kenny stretched his lead, Dean took third from Schroeder on lap ten.

Hodnett ran the high groove just like the leader, and Dean drove the same way. Shepard was in fourth by lap 11, and at the half-way mark Kenny pushed his advantage to a full straightaway. Shepard began applying pressure to Dean for third, but could not get by, and by lap 18 Hodnett began reeling in the leader. With ten to go, it was again the leaders in dense lapped traffic, and Hodnett stuck his nose in beside Kenny.

That's all it took for Kenny to change his line, and cruise the rest of the way to the $5,000 victory plus $600 in lap money. For his ninth series win, Kenny finished three lengths ahead of Hodnett, with Dean, aboard the Holbrook Eagle third and Shepard's Maxim fourth.

Ninth starting Kevin Huntley was fifth in Rick Daugherty's Doemelt, with Frankie Kerr sixth aboard a Maxim, Nier seventh, Kevin Gobrecht eighth after starting tenth, 19th starting Keith Kauffman ninth and Sean Michael tenth

The United Expressline heat fell to Saldana, the Southwest Expressline heat to Kevin Gobrecht, the Southwest Glass heat was won by Shepard and the United Specialties heat went to Greg Hodnett. Buddy Cochran, age 64, won the Alky Dash, worth $200, for the six slowest qualifiers. with Charlie Fisher the United Expressline B Main winner. Ralph Spithaler, Jr. won the KSE Racing C Main and Arnie Kent won the last chance race.

In the 20-lap D.I.R.T. modified Russ King Memorial Syracuse qualifier, Lou Blaney started ninth and took the lead on lap 14 to win $2,000 over Tim Doran (who gained the Syracuse qualifying spot), Bill Dorman, Rob McClimans and Josh Skarzenski.
