Minter Gets Bullring Lesson at Double X

CALIFORNIA, MO (July 4) -- Kathryne Minter learned some valuable lessons about racing on bullring racetracks in Wednesday's American Sprint Car Series on Tour Inaugural Daniel McMillin Memorial before a standing-room-only, Independence-Day crowd at Double X Speedway.

Minter, who ranks 22nd in the ASCoT point standings, finished seventh in the Fifth Heat Race and seventh in the Second "B" Feature.

"I heard the track was really small and, not only was it small, it was a bullring," Kathryne said. "There were really short straightaways and really wide turns. I had never sen a track like that before.

"In hot laps, I tried to figure out which lines to run. When I came back in, I talked to Sean (McClelland, the team's crew chief) about how to run the track. Right before the heat race, he told me to try to run the bottom. I tried that and it didn't work very well. Then I tried some other things that have worked for me in the past. That helped, but there were only about three laps to go at that point. That's how it went in the 'B,' too, so it wasn't a very good night.

"I learned a lot about running bullrings and how to stay on the cushion though, so there were some positives. It was just a total learning experience."

Minter, who leads the ASCS Gulf South Rookie of the Year race, had nothing but good things to say about the Goodyear tires she has been testing.

"The Goodyear tires were incredible again," Kathryne said. "We had absolutely no problems with them. They always stick really well."

Minter plans to race at her home track -- Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, TX -- Saturday.

"We're going to head home and run Cowtown -- weather permitting," Kathryne said. "I hear it's still raining a lot there. We hope the weather cooperates so we can race."
