Duke, Felker & Mullens Take ASCS2 Wins at Caney

CANEY, Kan. (July 22, 2007) -- Ryan Duke, Andrew Felker and Tanner Mullens each captured ASCS2 Micro Sprint victories on Sunday night as the series invaded the 0x00bc-mile Caney Speedway clay oval for the first time.

Duke extended his ASCS2 Multi point lead by capturing his first feature win of the season, with Felker was a first-time ASCS2 winner in the Non-Wing division. Tanner Mullens padded his ASCS2 Restricted "A" Class points lead with his second triumph of the year.

Duke entered the night with a one-point advantage over Chris Berreth in the championship points chase. By night's end, Duke had reached victory lane in the 25-lap Multi feature and stretched his lead to 21 points over fourth-place finisher Berreth.

Duke ran third in the early stages of the feature, as Jerrod Wilson beat polesitter Zach Alley into turn one at the drop of the green flag for the early lead. Duke climbed to second after five laps when Alley came to a stop off the backstretch with mechanical woes.

Wilson took off on the restart and appeared to have the field covered until blowing an engine on what proved to be an unlucky 13th lap for the reigning Tulsa Shootout champion.

Duke assumed the point on the restart and led the rest of way, taking the checkered flag in front of Billy Lawhead and Scott Sawyer, who advanced from the eighth starting position. Berreth outdueled Dean Franklin for fourth over the final circuits, with Andrew Felker a close sixth after starting 14th.

Pulling double duty, Felker battled past Alex Decamp on the seventh lap of the Non-Wing feature and led the remainder of the 20-lap feature event.

While Joel Smith and Jim Woods led the Non-Wing feature to the green flag, it was third starting Decamp gunning into the lead on the opening lap. Sixth-starter Andrew Deal quickly moved up to second and began challenging Decamp for the point.

Decamp and Deal raced underneath the flagstand wheel-to-wheel to complete the sixth lap. But as the pair charged down the backstretch, Deal slipped to high entering turn three and slid off the top of the track to bring out a caution.

Having disposed of Joel Smith just prior to the caution, Felker restarted in second and quickly made his way around Decamp for the lead on the restart. Felker led the rest of the way to take the checkered flag.

Current ASCS2 Non-Wing points leader Decamp crossed the line second, but was disqualified when he failed to report to the frontstretch for tech.JAs a result, Joel Smith took second and climbed to within two points of Decamp.

Harlan Hulsey charged from 17th to third, with Dalton Cole and Jim Woods rounding out the top five. Deal rebounded to claim sixth.

In the Restricted "A" main event, Devon Huff outgunned Shane Fletcher for the early lead with fourth-starter Mullens taking second by the third lap. Huff paced the opening ten rounds before Mullens powered by on the high side of turns three and tour to take command on the eleventh lap.

Huff spun exiting turn four two laps later, moving Blake Hahn into second. Hahn tried to mount a challenge on Mullens, but to no avail as Mullens rode the high side to victory lane.

Hahn settled for runner-up honors, with Brandon Hahn taking the third position. Jordan Hermann was fourth, with Geoffrey Burk rounding out the top five.

A total of 50 ASCS2 Micro Sprints filled the pit area at Caney Speedway on Sunday night, with the final checkered flag flying at 9:25 p.m.
