Bloomington Speedway April 26 preview

Kinsers return to Bloomington Speedway.

BLOOMINGTON, IN (April 21) - The first family of sprint car racing will return to their roots on Friday night, April 26. Kelly Kinser who always runs strong at Bloomington Speedway plans to come out and thrill the hometown fans. Also, the heir apparent to the first seat in the Steve Kinser Racing team, Kraig Kinser, plans to be in attendance to establish his own tradition at the track formerly ruled by his dad and, before that, his grandfather, Bob Kinser. Randy Kinser, who, with a lot of input from his wife, has decided to get out of the cockpit for good, will be turning the wrenches on Kraig's mount. Kraig has been running a lot of World of Outlaws and World of Outlaws Gumout races; but, this Friday night, there is no place that he would rather be than Bloomington Speedway. When asked about his appearance at Bloomington Speedway, Kraig said, "I can't wait!"

Along with the Kinsers, Bloomington Speedway fans will get the opportunity to see other cars and drivers that seldom appear at Bloomington Speedway. Winged sprint car racing has pretty much become the province of traveling series'. GLOSS is one of the newer of those series. Last season they averaged over 30 cars each night that they competed in Indiana. The GLOSS regulars like Boston Reid, winner of last season's Dizz Wilson classic will almost certainly be there along with most if not all of those leading the GLOSS points race. Brett Mann of Elkhart leads the points chase trailed by Reid of Fairmount, Tim Norman of Warsaw, Ken Mackey of Manitou Beach, Mich., Van Gurley, Jr. of Valparaiso, Richard Shank of Galveston, Chuck Wilson of Toledo, Ohio, Ben Rutan of Hudson, Mich., Dan Hall of Adrian, Mich., and Carl Fry of Mendon, Mich.

The GLOSS racers seldom get an opportunity to compete on a good, heavy race track like the one that they will find at Bloomington Speedway; and it will be interesting to see how they handle it and to watch them adjust to it throughout the evening. Some drivers are likely to run poorly early in the evening and then come into it as the evening progresses. Watching them try to move through the slower cars will certainly be exciting.

In addition, you can expect a number of the Bloomington Speedway regulars to strap on a wing and use their experience with the heavy red clay to give them an advantage over the touring teams in an effort to find victory lane ahead of their usually better financed rivals

The winged sprinters will be running for $2500 to win and $250 to start the feature event.

The O'Neal Wood Products modifieds and the Tire & Wheel Center super stocks will also be in competition. Their features will pay $550 to win with proper decals.

Whatever happens, it should be a great night of racing at Bloomington Speedway.

Pit gates will open at 4:30 PM, the grandstand gates will open at 5:30 PM, hot laps will start at 6:30 PM, and racing will begin at 7:30 PM. General admission is $15 for this event; and pit admission is $25. Children are admitted free to the grandstand when accompanied by a paying adult. Overnight camping is permitted. Coolers are allowed; but no glass containers please.
