(Bloomington, Ind. - September 2, 2001) September 14 is the only time this season that winged sprint cars will get an opportunity to compete on the famous red clay that is Bloomington Speedway. Sprint car racing has become so specialized that many winged sprint drivers seldom if ever run without the wing. You can be certain that every winged sprint driver around will unload to compete at Bloomington Speedway on September 14. This special event will pay $2000 to win and $225 to start the feature event.

This race is being run in honor of Dizz Wilson. There are probably more Dizz Wilson stories than there are about any other car owner short of Karl Kinser. It is said that Dizz fired more drivers in the air than ever drove for any other car owner. Dizz never had much time for temperamental drivers. He was famous for saying, "There's nothing wrong with the car, just drive it." And "The easiest things on that car to adjust are the belts."

In addition to the winged sprint cars, the O'Neal Wood Products Open Wheel Modifieds and the Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks will be in competition. This is their final points race of the season; and they will all be scrapping in hopes of gaining in the final Bloomington Speedway points standings.

Going into the September 14 racing program Matt Boknecht holds a 16 point lead over Adam Sasser in the modified points battle; however, going into August 24 competition, Sasser led Boknecht by a point. It's now Boknecht's championship to lose; but he could loseit.

In the Super Stock points race Greg O'Neill holds a ten point lead over Jeremy Hines and only a 12 point lead over Brad Cummings.

As an added treat for the race fans on this special night will be the Midwest Oldtimers Vintage Race Car Club with several of their vintage race cars including one of Sheldon Kinser's championship cars. The cars will be displayed courtesy of Ed Evans Antique Auto & Race Car Museum in Bedford. These guys spend a lot of time and money on their cars. Some of them will make a couple of laps around the famous red clay; and others will simply be displayed; but you will certainly enjoy all of them.

As if all of this weren't enough, we will also have a powder puff race. We have no clue which ladies will choose to compete; but you can be certain that they will make it exciting.

General admission for this event is only $12; and pit admission is $20. As always, children 12 and under are admitted free with a paying adult. Coolers are allowed; but glass containers are strictly forbidden. Parking and overnight camping are free.
