Hockett Does It Again on ASCS Western World Championships Night Two!

PHOENIX, Ariz. (November 7, 2008) -- Jesse Hockett picked off his second Discount Tire Co. American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region feature win in as many nights by topping Friday night's 20-lap Parker Store ASCS Non-Wing Western World Championship preliminary main event atop Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval.

After wiring the field in Thursday night's feature, "The Rocket" had to utilize some late race heroics to take Friday night's win away from Massey Motorsports teammate Charles Davis, Jr., after a race-long battle for the top position.

While Hockett gridded the feature field from inside the fifth row, "Chargin" Charles Davis, Jr., made a quick burst from the second row inside to take the lead away from front row starters Josh Pelkey and Gary Taylor on the opening circuit of the main event.

Hockett needed just four rounds to charge from ninth to second and set his sights on Davis for the point. The pair of Orange cars proceeded to battle throughout, trading slide jobs several times along the way.

Davis successfully fought off the bulk of Hockett's bids, appearing to finally have the race in hand until a final caution flew for Brady Bacon's disabled mount, setting up a two-lap dash to the checkered flag.

Hockett took quick advantage, sliding into the lead in turns one and two and then beating Davis in the drag race down the backstretch for the lead and ultimate win.

Davis settled for runner-up honors behind the Warsaw, MO, racer, with Jeremy Sherman securing a second consecutive ASCS Canyon Region championship with a third-place finish. In a torrid battle behind the leaders, Gary Taylor claimed fourth with 13th-starter Mike Leslie nipping Brad Sweet at the line for fifth. Nathan High was seventh, with 19th-starter Casey Shuman, Pelkey and Andrew Reinbold completing the top ten.

Sherman, Derek Williams, Pelkey, Mike Martin and Bacon topped Friday night's heat race action, with Jeremy Reagles and R.J. Johnson winning the "B" Mains.

Hockett and Gary Taylor will start Saturday night's Parker Stores ASCS Non-Wing Western World Championships feature event from the front row, with Sherman, High, Shuman, Leslie, Davis and Reinbold also locked into the championship main event. The balance of the 24-car finale will be filled out with the top eight finishers from each of Saturday night's Twin "B" Mains.
