Peworchik Wins Six Gun Opener Sodus, NY - David Peworchik, of Harporsville, NY, won the opening race of the 1999 Dow Corning/Kaman Industrial Technologies Mini Sprint Six Gun Shootout, which was held at Albany-Saratoga Speedway o n June 4, 1999.

Sodus, NY - David Peworchik, of Harporsville, NY, won the opening race of the 1999 Dow Corning/Kaman Industrial Technologies Mini Sprint Six Gun Shootout, which was held at Albany-Saratoga Speedway o n June 4, 1999. The event was sanctioned by Central New York Mini Sprints (CNYMS), Inc. Peworchik started the night tied with Mike Emhof of Sodus, NY, for the CNYMS tour points lead and, with his f irst CNYMS win ever, took sole position of the top spot. From the pole, Bobby Zwart, Bullville, NY, led a full field of 24 cars to the green flag and moved out to a comfortable lead, but the field w as bunched when the caution flew for a multi-car incident on lap 4. After the restart, Emhof continued to move up through the field to eventually pass Zwart for the lead. Meanwhile, mechanical prob lems then started to claim many of the early race top runners. Jim Vansteenburg (West Shokan, NY), Blasé Regina (Altamont, NY), and Zwart all left with engine problems while running in the top five and Peworchik claimed the second spot behind Emhof. Emhof built a comfortable lead, only to run out of gas as the white flag flew. Peworchik powered past for the win. Rounding out the top five wer e Bob Scaccio (Suffern, NY), John Ogle (Pittsfield, MA), Brian Burns (West Shokan, NY), and John Lieto. Scaccio, Emhof, and Regina won heat races.

In addition to the winner's purse, Peworchik took home a gift certificate from Seymour Enterprises, a distributor of performance race products for open wheel and stock car racers. He was also presen ted a package of specialty lubricants supplied by Six Gun series sponsor Dow Corning, of Midland, Michigan. The Weld Wheels Hard Charger Award was given to Joel Batzel, of Windsor, NY. This award i s given the driver who finishes out of the top five, who advances the most positions in the feature race from his starting spot. Batzel started in 19th and finished 11th. John Ogle was the recipien t of the Cleason Concrete Products (Palmyra, NY) "750 Club" Award, a cash bonus to the highest finishing 750 cc powered machine. The Pennzoil product contingency award made possible by Slate Belt Au to Parts, Bangor, PA. went to Howard Thurlow (New Harford, NY). The feature winner bases this award on a random drawing of all the feature finishers. The CNYMS tour will return to Penn Can Speedway, Susquehanna, PA, on June 11th, for the second race of the Penn Can Challenge Cup. The teams will then travel to Black Rock Speedway, Dundee, NY, on Ju ne 18th, for the second stop on the 1999 Dow Corning/Kaman Industrial Technologies Six Gun Mini Sprint Shootout.

Black Rock Speedway to Host Mini Sprint Six Gun Race

Sodus, NY - As the 1999 Central New York Mini Sprint season shifts into high gear, Black Rock Speedway is set to host the second stop of the 1999 Dow Corning/Kaman Industrial Technologies Six Gun Min i Sprint Shootout on Friday night, June 18, 1999. The Shootout, "A Tour Within The Tour", is independently organized by Branich Motorsports of Sodus, NY, and is sanctioned by Central New York Mini Sprints, Inc. The Dundee, NY, facility is one of the premier circuits in Central NY and its 4/10 mi. banked oval is well suited for Mini Sprint racing. The Shootout Series is co-sponsored by Dow Co rning, Inc., Midland, Michigan, and Kaman Industrial Technologies, Inc. Dow is a worldwide supplier of a full line of adhesive sealant and specialty lubricants. With nearly 200 branch locations cou ntrywide, Kaman is one of North America's largest distributors of bearing, power transmission, fluid power, linear motion and material handling equipment. Lessord's Chrysler Products, Inc., of Sodus , NY, will sponsor the Shootout race at Black Rock. Lessord's provides sales and service for a full line of Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, and Jeep cars and trucks. Lessord's will have some of the curr ent line of new vehicles on display at the track that night and the vehicles will lead the parade lap before the Shootout feature race. Representatives of Lessord's will be on hand to talk to the fa ns and they will participate in the winner's circle festivities. The Shootout has caught the interest of many Mini Sprint teams in the Northeast. Already teams have pre-registered for, not only the Black Rock date, but for the all of the remaining Shootout races. With the deadline for pre-registration approaching, drivers already registered to compete include; Brian Burns (West Shokan, NY), Mike Emhof (Sodus, NY), Dennis Fink (Germantown, NY), Jeff Lamothe (Easthampton, MA), Marc Lapan (Glens Falls, NY), Timothy Lapp (Accord, NY), Dave Peworchik (Harpursville, NY), Blasé Regina (Altamont, NY) and Jim VanSteenburg (West Shokan, NY). Peworchik took the Six Gun opener at Albany-Saratoga Speedway on June 4th. In addition to the full Mini Sprint show, Black Rock will run all of its regular divisions. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM, with racing to start at 7:00 PM. The speedway is located on Route 1 4A at the fairgrounds at the southern edge of Dundee.
