Lambert wins Civil War second round at Petaluma Speedway

PETALUMA, 4-24-99 - After nearly a one-month hiatus, the California Sprint Car Civil War Race Series returned to action Saturday night, making it's first of two season visits to Petaluma Speedway. The event was the second of the 13-race series sponsored by Hoosier Racing Tires and drew a total of 50 competitors to the 3/8 mile dirt oval located near the California coastal range. When the dust settled from the dry, single groove race track, Scooter Lambert of Foothill Farms became the second feature winner of the young Civil War season and ended a somewhat lengthy winless streak aboard the Jack Gordon owned 1C special. After finishing third in heat race competition, Lambert started the 30-lap feature event on the pole with David Robinson Jr. of Sacramento on the outside. At the waving of the green flag, Lambert wasted no time in taking the point as Robinson followed for the next 12-laps before doing a complete 360 spin in turns three and four. Robinson managed to keep his 1999 John Boy under power in the incident and recovered to the seventh position. With Robinson's early season streak of bad luck haunting him, the bridesmaid position fell into the hands of Petaluma regular David Lindt Jr.. Holding off the challenges of Roger Crockett, Lindt maintained the second position for the entire event, one that ran non-stop with no caution flags and was completed in less than 14 minutes. At the checkered flag Lambert earned the win and was followed by Lindt, Crockett, Damion Garnder of Concord, Mike Henry of Fair Oaks, Korey Lovell of Yuba City, Robinson, Jeff Young of Roseville, Mike Benson of Calistoga and Bryan Bullard of Sloughouse. In preliminary action on Saturday, it appears that Crockett maintained his early season point lead. Entering Saturday's event, Crockett held a one-point advantage over Grass Valley driver Mark Hall. By picking up the fast time award with a 14:730. Hall was not in attendance at Saturday's event. Heat race action saw very little incidents Saturday. Heat race victors were Jim Vanlare of Windsor, Gerold Hopping of Roseville and Grass Valley drivers Billy Wallace and Ricky Wondergem. In the yellow-flag plagued C-main Adam McCarthy was the first driver to the checkered flag. The B-main event had Crockett picking up the win to earn his qualifying time back for A-feature. Gardner finished second in the semi followed by Rich Tiner of Rio Linda and Lovell. This Saturday night the California Sprint Car Civil War Series will compete in it's third season event at Alan Padjen's Placerville Speedway. This event will be the first of three appearances at Placerville and 40-50 competitors are expected to participate. Action is set to begin at 6:30 with qualifying followed by heat races at 7:30.
