Droud Jr. Cops Crawford Sprint Win

DENISON, IA(Saturday, September 8, 2001)---Don Droud Jr. of Lincoln , NE., won the 360 Sprint Car Special A-feature Saturday at the Crawford County Speedway in Denison.

Droud took the lead on lap five from Seth Brahmer and never let up though he had to survive a series of late cautions, including one with three laps to go to allow the racers to re-fuel their cars.

Besides Brahmer, who later developed problems and finished a distant nineteenth, Droud had competition from local favorite Ryan Anderson of Charter Oak and Jake Peters of Sioux Falls, S.D., a winner on this track last season. Droud was not to be denied as he easily won the shootout following the final caution period.

Winning sprint car heat races on Saturday were Droud, Josh Higday and Greg Bakker. The trophy dash qualifying winner was Brahmer. There were twenty-five sprint cars signed in to race.

Vintage race cars from throughout the region acted as support classes for the sprints. The Good Old Times Racing Association (GOTRA) feature winner was Steve Delavan of Tabor, IA., while the Classic Vintage Racing Association (CVRA) winner was Rod Foster of Cedar Falls.
