O'Reilly ASCoT Crew Chief McMillin Dies in Auto Accident

TULSA, Okla. (July 2, 2006) -- For the second time in the past week, the American Sprint Car Series mourns the loss of a beloved series member as O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour crew chief Daniel McMillin succumbed to injuries suffered in an automobile accident early Saturday morning.

McMillin served as crew chief for O'Reilly ASCoT National contender and his cousin, Jesse Hockett. Seemingly inseparable over the past few years, the pair of 22-year-olds from Warsaw, MO, have worked together to amass approximately 70 feature wins since 1998.

Among their triumphs were back-to-back wins in Lakeside Speedway's Annual $10,000-to-win Non-Wing Clash in Kansas City, KS, in 2003 and 2004 along with four ASCS National Tour feature wins, including a March 10 victory at Baton Rouge Raceway.

In their first full year on the ASCS National trail, Hockett and McMillin were ranked third in O'Reilly ASCoT points entering the weekend. Hockett missed Saturday night's card after McMillin's tragic passing.

Funeral Services for Daniel McMillin will be held on Tuesday, July 4, at 1:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Warsaw, MO. Grave Side services will be held at L.P. Union Cemetery near Warsaw. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday evening, at the Reser Funeral Home, in Warsaw. Memorial contributions may be made to the Daniel McMillin Memorial Fund c/o the Reser Funeral Home, P.O. Box 910 Warsaw, Missouri 65355.

The thoughts and prayers of the entire American Sprint Car Series staff and family are with the family, friends and loved ones of Daniel McMillin.
