EAST BAY RACEWAY - WRIGHT FLORIDA KING - JANUARY 30, 1999

360 WINTER NATIONAL RACE RESULTS BY JACK MILLER

The "Texan" Gary Wright was involved in a high speed crash Thursday night so he sat in the stands on Friday night, but on Saturday he rebuilt a car, started dead last in his heat, and then started twelfth in the feature before he grabbed the lead on the 25th lap of the 40-lap main event. Gary Wright picked up $5,000 by winning the first "King of the 360's" event held as part of East Bay Raceway's Winter Nationals.

The 1997 Track Champion Gene Lasker broke out in front from his pole position and was driving away from the field when he spun out on lap 17. Ron Laney then grabbed the lead which he held until lap 25 when Wright, who had been doing all his passing on the outside, took the front spot.

Wright lead Laney, Kenny Jacobs, Terry McCarl, Kenny Adams, and John Bankston at this point. One lap later, Jacobs spun causing a yellow erasing Wright's four-car lead. After the restart Wright was untouchable but the red flag came out on lap 36 for a two-car crash in turn three for Mike Van Dusen and Laney who caught fire but got out uninjured. Another yellow on lap 38 for a spin by Sport Allen set up a two-lap dash to the checkered.

The "Texan" was up to the challenge and took the win three-car-lengths ahead of Adams, who finished second in all three features, each time behind a different winner. Fellow Texan, Bankston charged into third place on the last lap with South Dakota's Brian Schnee taking fourth ahead of Travis Rilat. Rounding out the top ten in the feature event it was Tim Crawley, Mike Woodring, Smith, Jacobs and Michael Dupuy.

Oklahoma's Jamie Passmore led all the way to win the B-Feature over Dupuy, Roland Johnson, Terry Pletch and Larry Pinegar 11 The C-Main went to R.C. Faigle ahead of Paul Weaver, Jon Eldreth, Christi Passmore and Frank Carlson, Jr. Heat wins went to Paulie Milum, Bankston, Schnee and Allen. Milum took the $1,000 top prize in the Jean Lynch Appreciation Dash.
