Meyers and his Elite Racing team is ready for a marathon day at Knoxville

After a disappointing qualifying night, Jason Meyers and his Elite Racing team are ready to get back on track on Saturday. With the final qualifying racing night being pushed back a day due to rain, Meyers has his work ahead of him tomorrow, but is confident he can overcome the odds and race into the feature from the back of the pack.

Wednesday Qualifying Ends in Disappointment

On the first night of qualifying for Knoxville Nationals, Jason Meyers looked to be in a good position qualifying in the 5th position. In his #14 Allstar Performance KPC, the California native would make his way into the 5th heat race starting 8th due to the inversion. On a track that was difficult to pass on, he quickly moved up to the 5th position. Meyers would try to track down Tony Bruce Jr. to take away the transfer spot, but with fellow Californian Jonathan Allard closing in, Meyers would have to defend his position on the track. At the end of the first heat race, Meyers would fall just one spot short of qualifying for the A-Main.

As a result of his 5th place finish, Meyers would transfer into the B-main where he would start in the 5th position. Meyers quickly moved into 4th on the start and stalked down Dave Blaney to take the 3rd position before a red flag came out. On the restart, Joey Saldana would get past the #14 Allstar Performance machine and leave him to defend the transfer spot.

Over the final laps of the race, Meyers would wage a fierce battle with Kerry Madsen. The two would drive wheel-to-wheel with Meyers favoring the high line and Madsen down low. Madsen was all over Meyers, but each time Meyers did what he had to in order to defend his position. It would go down to the last lap, but the Californian would narrowly edge Madsen at the finish line to finish 4th and pick up the final spot to transfer into the night's A-main.

What happened after the checkered flag would change the complexion of Meyers' Knoxville Nationals. In a rare miscue, he drove to his pit box instead of the scales which is mandated at the Knoxville Nationals. Due to the oversight Meyers was disqualified and was scored 20th in the B-main.

"I just made a mistake," explained Meyers. "There is no way around it. I feel the worst for our sponsors and my teammates. All we can do now is charge forward and with my team's support we look forward to racing our way through the alphabet."

Meyers seeking Saturday Redemption

With the rain raining out Friday racing action, Meyers is set to race on Saturday afternoon. Racing action will begin at noon CST with the rained out program. Meyers is slated to start 1st in the second Semi-Feature and will be doing his best to race his way through the pack into the main event.
