August 21, 1999 From Victory Lane at Greenwood Valley . . . . By Than Mitchell

Sometimes a little luck, in combination with driver's skill is the formula for victory and Jason Kemp, Bloomsburg, combined the right proportions of both to win the 250cc Micro Sprint Feature at The Greenwood Valley Action Track on Saturday night. Kemp moved quickly into the lead at the green flag with Joe Bednarski, Wyoming, right on his tail. When Bednarski charged into the lead and opened a straightaway gap back to Kemp, it looked like another Bednarski victory until something broke putting Joe in the pits and Jason back in the lead.

Following Kemp across the line was Colby Womer, Mt. Pleasant Mills, driving the Greenwood Valley Action Track sponsored car. Third place went to Neil Petock from Bloomsburg in his new #4 ride, fourth was Brian Kishbaugh, Nescopeck, and fifth place went to Blane Heimbach, Selinsgrove. Taking a sixth was Jeff Furlong, Selinsgrove, followed by Rick Tanner, Middleburg, Billy Nye and Jake Park, Rome. Wrapping up the top ten was Steve Lenig, Selinsgrove.

In Rookie Micro Sprint Feature, Geoff Hogan, who hails from Plymouth, picked up his first checkered flag of the season, leading most of the way after starting on the third row. From Victory Lane, Hogan thanked many people, with a special mention of his father. Ashley "Mooch" Parlett, the 16 year old who travels from Wye Mills, MD, nearly passed Hogan, but finished second, leaving her one win shy of promotion to the Regular Micro Division. Another Rookie Division pilot looking for a fourth win, Scott Lawrence of Conklin, NY, was close behind Parlett. Last week's winner, Eric Eckert, Bristol, placed fourth, while Ralph Ferraro, North Plainfield, NJ was fifth. Sixth place was taken by Scott Tate from Middleburg, seventh was Scott Miller, Slatington, while eighth went to Rick Morris, Catawissa, ninth to Lee Benjamin, Berwick, and tenth to Brian Wawroski, Bloomsburg.

With the racing season in full swing, the competition is hot and the racing is great at The Greenwood Valley Action Track located 3 1/2 miles east of Millville just off route 254. Gates open at 3:30, warm-ups begin at 5:30, and when Kart and Micro Sprint racing begins, there's no better place for racing action. See you at the races.
