Kulhanek Best in Bankston/English ASCS Gulf South Memorial at Motorama

BEAUMONT, Tex. (June 17, 2005) -- Ray Allen Kulhanek notched his second Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region feature victory of the season by topping Friday night's 25-lap feature in front of a packed house at Motorama Speedway.

While Kulhanek officially led all 25 laps of the John Bankston-Glen English Memorial aboard Marvin Pearson's Wesmar-powered No. 11 Maxim, the victory was far from easy as Stephen Chevallier kept the pressure on throughout.

Chevallier briefly took the point from Kulhanek as the pair charged down the backstretch on the 18th round, only to have Kulhanek regain the lead in turns three and four. Chevallier pulled alongside on a pair of other occasions, but Kulhanek was up to the task and earned the hard-fought win over Chevallier. The pair escaped the night tied for the series point lead.

Lane Whittington earned the race's Weld Wheels Hard Charger award by advancing from 15th to claim the show position, with Chris Sweeney and Greg Rilat rounding out the top five.

Completing the top ten were Rick Behr, Richard Holt, Greg Coleman, Ty Johnson and Scottie McDonald.

Kent Lewis, Jr., Sweeney, Kulhanek and McDonald topped heat race action for the 32-car field, with Whittington winning the "B" Main.
