Ramey Reels in ASCS Gulf South Gelt at HRP

BAYTOWN, Tex. (July 10, 2004) - Defending ASCS Sooner Region champion Kevin Ramey dropped in on the Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region at Houston Raceway Park Saturday night and rode off with a wire-to-wire victory in the 25-lap Ronald Laney Memorial, becoming the seventh different winner in eight Gulf South events thus far in 2004.

Ramey grabbed the lead at the outset and paced the field all the way. Ray Allen Kulhanek tried to mount a charge at the midway point, but Ramey pulled away to a seven car-length victory as the checkered flag flew over the Tom Willis-owned Wells-powered Commercial Music No. 7m Eagle.

Kulhanek settled for a career best ASCS runner-up finish, with Jerry Bell snaring the show position. Chris Sweeney crossed the stripe in fourth, with Todd Johnson rounding out the top five.

Tina Creswell posted her second sixth-place run in as many nights in front of Eric Payne and Jimmy Brooks, with Michael Przyborski earning Hard Charger honors from Eagle Jet International by racing from 24th to ninth at the line. Scottie McDonald completed the top ten.

Series point leader Greg Rilat was forced pitside after a lap eleven flip in the feature. While Rilat was uninjured, his point lead dwindled to just ten markers over Sweeney.
