McDonald Tames ASCS Gulf South Gator Foes

WILLIS, Tex. (April 16, 2005) -- Scottie McDonald notched his first career American Sprint Car Series triumph by topping Saturday night's 25-lap Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region feature at Gator Motorplex.

Taking advantage of a front row starting position, McDonald gunned into the lead at the outset and paced the field all the way aboard the Royal Purple Synthetic Oil No. 88 Maxim to snare the victory as the series' made its debut atop the high-banked quarter-mile oval.

McDonald crossed the stripe six car-lengths ahead of A.J. Weaver, with Lane Whittington, Stephen Chevallier and Eric Payne rounding out the top five.

Next across the line were David Kulhanek, Greg Rilat and Travis Rilat, who rebounded from an early spin to claim eighth. Completing the top ten were current series point leader Chris Sweeney and 18th-starter Todd Johnson.

Whittington, McDonald, David Kulhanek and Ray Allen Kulhanek topped heat race action for the 33-car field, with Tommy Bryant and Sam Hafertepe, Jr., splitting victory honors in the twin "B" Mains.
