Senter Scores $10K Win in 600 Nationals; Crawley Tops in Sprint Car Feature

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (September 16, 2006) -- Osceola, AR, hotshoe Travis Senter, Jr., made the most of a slight home track advantage by pocketing $10,000 after winning Saturday night's inaugural 30-lap 600 Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires feature event at I-30 Speedway.

Senter rocketed from the fourth starting position into the lead on the opening circuit and paced the field throughout, surviving several cautions along the way to secure the win aboard the Holthouse Farms/Stallard Chassis No. 22T machine.

"Having some laps here before this race definitely didn't hurt," Senter commented afterward. "But what really made the difference was Mike Ward running that Sprint Car feature right before our race and letting us know exactly what the track was like." In addition to finishing fifth in the Sprint Car feature, Ward also piloted Senter's team car in the 600 Nationals.

In the 25-lap Sprint Car feature, Tim Crawley denied Cody Gardner his second win in as many nights with a last corner pass in heavy lapped traffic. It was Crawley's eleventh Sprint Car feature win of the season atop the I-30 Speedway clay oval.

Indiana's Nate Lauderbaugh earned the pole for the 600cc Micro feature by virtue of winning the 6-lap Sawyer Chassis Dash for Cash and led the feature field to the green flag with Pennsylvania's Ben Murphy alongside. But it was second row outside starter Senter who snared the lead on the opening round.

Lauderbaugh was closing in on Senter as lapped traffic was becoming a factor with just six laps to go, only to have a caution appear for Chris Lloyd, who came to a stop in turn four. With open track, Senter then raced to the checkered flag unchallenged.

Lauderbaugh settled for second, with Tennessee's Eric Wright advancing from sixth to take the show position. After picking off a handful of positions to cross the stripe fourth, Donnie Ray Crawford was disqualified when he failed to report to the tech area.

Murphy claimed fourth after the disqualification, with Oklahoma's Kevin Bayer rebounding from an early tangle with Jake Mosley to round out the top five. Austin Laskey claimed sixth, with fellow Oklahoma racer Jerrod Wilson earning a $500 bonus from www.600scene.com by capturing the race's Hard Charger award with a drive from 23rd to seventh.

Pennsylvania's Tim Dietz was eighth, with North Carolina's Brian Roseman advancing from 22nd to ninth. Pennsylvania's Ryan Greth completed the top ten.

After winning Friday night's preliminary feature, Scott Sawyer took a slight tumble in Dash. Sawyer returned to finish the Dash, then flipped again on the frontstretch at the midway point of the feature.

Pennsylvania's Heath Henley had climbed from 17th to fifth in the feature before his engine expired just two laps shy of the checkered flag.

A total of 126 drivers competed in the inaugural edition of the 600 Nationals at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway.

In the Sprint Car feature, Gardner assumed the lead when Lee Sowell and Jerry Kamer tangled while dicing for the point on the third lap. A night after winning his first career feature, Gardner had the race well in hand until lapped traffic came into play in the final handful of laps.

Crawley closed the gap and shot underneath Gardner exiting turn four with the checkered flag in sight to steal the win. Gardner settled for second, with Darren Stewart, Jesse Hockett and Mike Ward rounding out the top five.
