I-55 Raceway results 2005-06-15

Randy Hannagan & Brian Shirley take I-55 Raceway Victories!

Pevely, MO (June 15, 2005) A large crowd and great field of cars turned out for the Wednesday night special event that featured special guest Mark Martin in his "Salute to You Tour". Mark Martin and Ken Schrader signed autographs for two hours before the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealers racing action got underway.

Thirty-eight United Midwestern Promoters (U.M.P.) Late Models checked in through the gate to compete in the UMP Challenge of Champions event. Twenty-three year old Brian Shirley of Chatham, IL dominated the late model event as he set fast time, won the qualifying dash and led all thirty laps of the main event. Shirley held off the challenges of Bryan Collins early on in the event. Collins was able to get the nose of his car inside of Shirley on several occassions but was unable to complete the pass at anytime. Randy Korte moved past Collins immediately after a restart after a lap eleven caution. Korte was able to stay right on Shirley's rear bumper but was never able to get a run to make a pass for the lead and Korte settled for the second position. Billy Faust followed Korte past Collins to take the third spot and that is where Faust would finish the event. Collins held on to the fourth spot and Rodney Melvin rounded out the top five.

Randy Hannagan of Pittsboro, IN claimed the Winged Sprint Car main event in his Compton Roofing sponsored machine. Hannagan battled all twenty-five laps with Jerrod Hull and Ricky Logan for the lead. Hull led much of the event early on as Hannagan, Logan and Joey Montgomery made it a four car battle for the lead. Joey Montgomery found the front stretch wall on lap thirteen which destroyed his right rear wheel causing him to spin down the front stretch which slowed the field under caution. On the restart, Hannagan moved past Hull for the lead and led the final twelve laps to earn the win. Hull took the second spot with Logan coming home third. Bobby Hawks claimed the fourth position and Jimmy Hurley rounded out the top five. Jay Landolt got upside down in the early laps of the event in turn one. Landolt was not injured in the incident.
