Knoxville ToC entry update 2003-07-06

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (July 6, 2003) - The July 31st entry deadline for the fifth Brodix Tournament of Champions (ToC) at Knoxville Raceway is fast-approaching, and some of the top winged 360-cubic-inch sprint car racers in the country have responded to the call. This week, official entries for the August 10th $4,000-to-win invitational race have been received from defending champion Josh Higday of Iowa, United Racing Club (URC) point leader Kevin Welsh of New Jersey and third-place point-getter Trevor Lewis of Pennsylvania, Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW) top-ranked Missouri duo Eric Schrock and Tracy Nichols, Sprints On Dirt (SOD) point leader Dustin Daggett of Michigan, American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) point leader Darren Stewart and his brother Shane, both of Oklahoma.

According to Raceway office manager and scorer Arleta Voyce, "I've seen a lot of races at Knoxville over the years, and even I'm getting excited about this year's Tournament. The Sunday-before-the-Nationals show is drawing entries from Massachusetts to Montana, and Michigan to Texas. We've never tried bringing fifteen separate sanctions together for one show before, and the teams seem to be responding to the idea. If entries keep rolling in like they have to date, I just hope we have enough space in the pits that weekend!"

In addition, entries for the show have been received this week from Knoxville regulars David Hesmer, Stacey Alexander and Larry Ball, Jr., Montana Sprint Tour (MST) chauffeurs Shane Liebig and Jerry Brey, WISSOTA Promoters Association aces Greg Nikitenko and Sye Anderson, Eagle Sprint Touring Series (ESTS) hot-shoes Mitchell Moore and Doug Lovegrove, and ASCS hot-shot Toby Brown.

This year, an expected 72 competitors from fifteen sanctions will converge on the historic half-mile oval, all competing under one common set of rules utilizing the Brodix ASCS spec head. To date, thirty-nine racers from sixteen states have entered. Drivers must enter the Brodix ToC and have competed in a minimum of sixty-percent of their sanction's events by August 1st in order to even be eligible to compete. A maximum of ten invitations will then be issued from each affiliate's point standings, in order, from the point leader on down. The fifteen participating sanctions are: American Outlaw Action Series (AOAS), American Sprint Car Series (ASCS), ASCS-Gulf South, ASCS-Rocky Mountain, ASCS-Sooner, Empire Super Sprints (ESS), Eagle Sprint Touring Series (ESTS), Knoxville Raceway (KNOX), Montana Sprint Tour (MST), Northern Sprint Tour (NST), Sprint Invaders Association (SIA), Sprints On Dirt (SOD), United Racing Club (URC), WISSOTA Promoters Association (WISSOTA), and Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW).
