Lincoln Speedway 2005 410 Sprint purse increase

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 1/30/05 - "We dig America." That's the business slogan for John Gleim Excavating, which also "digs" sprint car racing at Lincoln Speedway.

So much, in fact, that in a unique one-year sponsorship package, John Gleim will join with Lincoln Speedway to add $500 to the winner's share for all regular 410 sprint car features at Lincoln beginning with the first evening show on Saturday, March 26th.

The joint promotion between Gleim and Lincoln matches the area's highest weekly 410 sprint car winner's payoff. The $3,000 first-place money is in addition to a previously-announced 2005 purse increase for finishing positions 3 through 24, an overall increase of $1,255 ($13,050 total weekly purse) .

John Gleim Excavating is based in Carlisle, PA. Owner John Gleim, Jr. has been a close friend of Lincoln Speedway owners Bob and Don Leiby since high school, and has become a valued associate of the Leibys. His company has been the primary contractor in many of the Lincoln Speedway improvement projects over the past decade, including the paved backstretch pit area and the new tunnel.

"I am proud of our company's contribution to the many improvements made at Lincoln," said Gleim, "This increase in payoff and the many fan-pleasing improvements already completed, combined with the area's most exciting sprint car racing, will enable Lincoln Speedway to continue to move ahead as one of the country's premier weekly sprint car facilities."

Lincoln Speedway promoter Don Leiby welcomes the involvement of John Gleim Excavating.

"The joint effort between John and Lincoln will provide added incentive to the area's best sprint car drivers," he said, "We appreciate the support of our fans and competitors and look forward to bigger and better things for Lincoln Speedway in 2005 and beyond."

Ongoing improvements at Lincoln have continued during the off-season, with construction of a new turn one food service building and new aluminum seats with backrests for reserve seat holders in the main grandstand.

Of course, the biggest project has been the construction of a tunnel under turn four, which will enable fans to access the infield from the current spectator area. Work on the tunnel has finished, but spectators will not be permitted into the infield until the infield improvements are complete. That should occur in May or June.

The 2005 Lincoln Speedway season is scheduled to begin with the "Icebreaker 30" for sprint cars (paying $3,000 to win) and the "Spring Thaw 20" for thundercars on Saturday, February 26th. Gates for the show will open at 12:00 noon, with the first green flag scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Saturday afternoon racing will continue at Lincoln through March 19th. For more information on Lincoln Speedway, fans are encouraged to visit the track's website at www.lincolnspeedway.com.
