KREITZ CLAIMS FIRST '98 LINCOLN WIN ON YORK COUNTY RACING CLUB NIGHT

   Eash establishes record in 358's

Donnie Kreitz Jr. Wins! ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 8/15/98 - Donnie Kreitz Jr. and Todd Shaffer turned around an otherwise disappointing week with first and third place finishes in the $3,000-to-win special super sprint non-points race at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night. Finishing between them was Cris Eash, who then jumped into the Leach No.30E and won the 20-lap "358" sprint feature. Kreitz took the lead from his pole position at the drop of the green and led the whole way. But it wasn't easy. In fact, Cris Eash, who started eighth, was in the middle of a pass for the lead coming off the second turn when the red flag came out for Randy Wolfe on the 19th lap. Flames were visible on Wolfe's driver suit as he exited the car after stopping on the third turn following a fuel leak in the cockpit. Wolfe suffered second-degree burns. Kreitz talks with track announcer Wayne Harper "We got a real big break there," said Kreitz in victory lane. "Cris was a lot better than us. I had to use a lot of race track there at the end. He got underneath us that one time, and I had to pull a lapped car on him. We're lucky we did. It was a great win for us, and I'm real happy for our guys who have been working real hard. And this Davey Brown motor was running great all night." "I figured he was going to try and go around the top. I heard him that one time right before the red came out," said Kreitz on how he held back Eash's challenges for the lead. "I knew he was going to try and slide me too so I would go into the turn in the middle and slide up to the top and try to take up a lot of track." The .41 second win was the Kreitz's first of the year at Lincoln, fifth overall, and 21st of his career in the Pigeon Hills, moving him back into a ninth-place tie with Cris Eash on the all-time Lincoln win list. "We were glad to come back here for this win," said Kreitz on the increased winners purse, "We're glad Lincoln put this special show on for us that paid a little extra money and had a draw deal for starting position instead of lining us up by points. That was the biggest reason we came." Eash was unable to find a way around Kreitz over the final seven laps. Todd Shaffer, who started tenth, sorted his way through the field to close on the leaders and finish a close third. Dave Ely challenged Kreitz over the early laps and finished fourth, with Billy Brian, Jr. crossing fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Johnny Mackison, Jr., Steve Siegel, Danny Jones, Tim Kuhn, and Dave Haight. Heats for the 38 super sprints were won by Brian, Kreitz, Wolfe and Ely. Twin consolation events were won by Jesse Wentz and Cliff Brian. _________________________________________________________________

Eash wins in 359 Sprint feature Eash established a "358" sprint record of 5:58.42 in the 20-lap "358" feature. He started 11th and grabbed the lead from Rick Kaylor on lap 10 to score his second Lincoln "358" feature win of the year. Eash dedicated the win to Joe Hartinger, a long-time friend and employee at E&G Classics who passed away earlier in the week. Lincoln defending champ and point leader Terry Leininger advanced from his 13th starting spot to finish second, with Kaylor third, and Bill Henderson team cars Ray Miller and Mike Lehman crossing fourth and fifth. 358 Sprint heats were won by Mike Rabold, Kaylor, Eash and Greg Leiby. Twin consolation events were won by Tom Leach and Dale Hammaker.
