Alley Earns ASCS Midwest Region Championship

TULSA, Okla. (September 14, 2005) -- Lincoln, Nebraska's Billy Alley added yet another accolade to his resume by capturing the inaugural American Sprint Car Series Midwest Region championship.

Although shut out of victory lane, Alley finished among the top six in all seven feature events and claimed the Midwest Region crown with a 97-point advantage over fellow Lincoln, NE, racer Toby Chapman.

Alley piloted the family-owned Wesmar-powered Speedway Motors No. 22 Eagle to top-five finishes in the opening five events of the season, including runner-up showings on three occasions. The 22-year-old then posted sixth-place finishes in the final two races of the season aboard Mark Burch's Engler Machine & Tool/Big Game Tree Stands No. 1m Wolfweld.

Finishing second in points, Chapman posted top-ten feature runs in six of seven ASCS Midwest Region events. After piloting his own No. 20x entry in the initial six events, Chapman put a lock on second in points after taking over Rick Bowers' Eckley-powered Select Auto No. 84 Maxim in last Friday night's season finale at US 36 Raceway in Cameron, MO.

Driving Bruce Rossman's Eckley-powered Triple R Tire No. 3R J&J, Rick Ideus finished third in points, just eleven points behind Chapman. From Roca, NE, Ideus posted three top-ten feature finishes, including a dazzling charge from deep in the field to finish ninth in the Lawrence Ideus Memorial at Nebraska Raceway Park's I-80 Speedway on July 8.

Ideus edged Brian Brown by just two points for third. From Grain Valley, MO, Brown scored three consecutive feature wins over the middle portion of the season aboard the Ostrich-powered Doogs Construction/Jolt Caffeine Energy Gum No. 21 Maxim.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota's Jake Peters rounded out the top five in ASCS Midwest Region points, with the balance of the top ten including Seth Brahmer (Wisner, NE), Jason Danley (Lincoln, NE), Don Droud, Jr. (Lincoln, NE), Jason Martin (Liberal, KS) and Chad Humston (Giltner, NE).

Ninety-seven different drivers representing eleven states competed in at least one of the seven ASCS Midwest Region events contested in 2005, with five different drivers scoring feature wins.

Iowa's Terry McCarl charged from 16th to win the initial ASCS Midwest Region event at Nebraska Raceway Park's I-80 Speedway on April 15, with Lincoln's Jason Danley topping the May 27 event at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, NE.

Brian Brown picked up his first win in the July 4 outing at Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, SD, then backed it up with consecutive wins at NRP's I-80 Speedway on July 8 and August 3. South Dakota's Dusty Zomer picked up his first ASCS Midwest Region win by topping the August 26 event at Interstate Auto Centers I-90 Speedway in Hartford, SD, with Indianola, Iowa's Johnny Anderson topping the September 9 season finale at US 36 Raceway in Cameron, MO.

After a successful debut season, it is expected that the 2006 ASCS Midwest Region schedule will consist of approximately 15 events.
