Brown Bags ASCS Midwest Ideus Memorial at I-80

GREENWOOD, Neb. (July 8, 2005) -- Brian Brown posted his second consecutive American Sprint Car Series Midwest Region feature victory by winning Friday night's 25-lap 16th Annual Lawrence Ideus Memorial event at Nebraska Raceway Park's I-80 Speedway.

Brown, who extended his series point lead, collected $2,000 for the victory aboard Tim Doogs' Ostrich-powered Jolt Caffeine Energy Gum/HostIowa.net No. 21 Maxim, with Chad Humston beating Jason Martin and Billy Alley to the line in a spirited duel for second.

"It's really an honor to win the Lawrence Ideus Memorial race, I've heard so much about what he did for the sport of Sprint Car racing in Nebraska and had always wanted to run this race," Brown commented from victory lane. "Now I had my chance and was fortunate enough to get the win, I look forward to seeing my name on the cup."

Brown outgunned Humston for the point at the outset, as eighth-starter Martin and sixth-starter Alley advanced to third and fourth, respectively, on the opening round.

After the caution flew for Jason Danley's turn four spin after four rounds, Humston fell to fourth as Martin and Alley charged by with their sights set on the pacesetting Brown. Alley then battled past Martin the next time around to take over second.

After Jake Peters' turn one spin after six rounds, Brown and Alley led the way as Humston made his way back around Martin for third on the tenth round. Lapped traffic came into play the next time around only to have the caution fly for Bryan Gossel, who looped his mount in turn two.

Brown continued to set the pace on the ensuing restart and after fending off an Alley slider for the point on the 17th round, sliced through lapped traffic in the final rounds to secure the victory.

Alley's mount stumbled with fuel problems in the final corner with Humston and Martin taking quick advantage. The trio raced under the checkered flag tightly bunched, with Humston getting the nod for second in front of Martin and Alley. Don Droud, Jr., rounded out the top five.

Rodney Droud advanced from 15th to claim sixth, with Mike Chadd, 19th-starter Toby Chapman, 21st-starter Rick Ideus and 17th-starter Ryan Anderson completing the top ten.

Chadd, Brown and Danley topped heat race action for the 26-car field, with Rodney Droud winning the 12-lap "B" Main.
